Phillaur : Normal life remained affected in most parts of the region due to complete power failure, owing to breakdown of the Northern Grid, from 2.35am to 12.55pm today. People in the region, including Phagwara, Phillaur, Nakodar, Bilga, Apra, and Goraya, were woken up by the power failure around midnight. Most of the residents could not take a bath in the morning, because the supply of water was also affected. In the morning, schools and offices recorded low attendance due to the power failure and heavy rains that lashed the region this morning. Railway services were also badly affected by the power failure. Phagwara Station Superintendent Ashok Kumar confirmed the cancellation of four trains, including Amritsar-Ambala (334/335) and Amritsar-Ludhiana (1AJL-4AJL) trains, and late running of more than 16 trains. The power failure also became a curse for patients admitted at the Civil Hospital here. A patient, Santosh Kaur of Dosanjh Kalan village, said her attendant had to purchase mineral water due to unavailability of drinking water at the hospital.
