MUMBAI: Fuming over the peak-hour strike called by 180 motormen of the Western Railway (WR) on Friday, Mumbai Yatri Sangh (MYS) has decided to file a public interest litigation (PIL) against WR.
The MYS will file a petition in a city court this week seeking explanation why commuters have to be the victim of war between workers and the WR management every time. The strike put thousands of Mumbaikars in great difficulty and also caused the death of two commuters.
A Palghar resident, 25-year-old Reena Kulkarni was crushed under the wheels of the Flying Rani Express at Borivli as she tried to board the express after waiting for a for four hours. “She fell in the gap between the train and the platform. Everyone was shocked by her screams when the train started,” MYS secretary Madhu Kotain said.
Another commuter, K Kulkarni, was killed after being pushed on the tracks by the massive crowds at the Borivli station. He died as a local ran over him.
“We have demanded Rs4 lakh each for the two victims and have filed a first information report against WR officials. They are responsible for the deaths,” Kotian said.
