After discovering serious irregularities in awarding contracts of advertisements in Mumbai division of railways a parliamentary committee has recommended CBI inquiry into the matter. According to committee there was no transparency into the method of awarding contracts in Western Railway zones and Central Railway both of which falls into Mumbai divisions. Public Accounts Committee (PAC) states that first come first serve policy has been seriously violated for the last 25 years or so. The PAC tabled its report in Lok Sabha recommending immediate termination of all such contracts. Central Vigilance Commission has already been enquiring the matter with action already in place but PAC demands CBI enquiry so that whole gamut of the policy can be looked into. The PAC also observed that the menace of unauthorised displays at the stations was a constant source of leakage of revenues of railways. |
