Paying more than Rs. 1.68 crore as ticket fee, a record number of 32.84 lakh passengers availed of the Metro railway services in Kolkata during the six days of Durga Puja.Officials of the Metro Railway on Thursday said this year’s traffic is 21.64 per cent higher than the Durga Puja traffic last year.The underground railway also surpassed all previous records by earning a revenue of Rs. 1.68 crore during Puja days from ‘ Panchami ’ to ‘ Dashami ’ from ticket sales, the officials said. Connecting the North-South axis of Kolkata with 23 stations from Dum Dum and New Garia, Metro is the preferred choice of travel for Puja revellers during pandal hopping. To handle extra rush during the State’s biggest festival, the tube railway ran a total of 76 extra trains on Saptami , Ashtami and Nabami days when Metro services were available from 2 p.m. to 4 a.m. |
