Title - On I-Day, CR, WR promise better Commute to mumbaiites

On the occasion of Independence day, the Central Railway (CR) and Western Railway (WR) have promised several infrastructure projects and amenities in the current financial year, to improve your daily commute. For suburban commuters, the WR has announced conversion of all 9-car trains


into 12-car ones and introduction of 35 new services by the end of the financial year. The CR has promised more foot-over bridges (FOB), air-conditioned dormitories, escalators at five stations and introduction of 15-car rakes.
"The conversion of our fleet into 12-car rakes will increase the carrying capacity by 30%. Besides, the 35 new services promised in the 2012-13 railway budget will also start by March-end," said Mahesh Kumar, general manager, WR.

Both railways are also planning escalators at important suburban stations such as Mumbai Central, Dadar, Andheri, Borivli, Mira Road, Vikhroli, Thane, Dombivli and Kalyan.

On Wednesday, the CR inaugurated an FOB each at Thane and Parel. "More FOBs are being built at CST, Kurla, Vidyavihar, Thane, LTT, Ambernath and Badlapur and new ones are being planned at Kalyan, Vithalwadi, Karjat and Chembur," said Subodh Jain, general manager, CR.
