GUWAHATI – Former champions Oil India Limited (OIL), Duliajan confirmed a semifinal berth in the 61st Bordoloi Trophy Tournament. In a quarterfinal match of the championship at the Nehru Stadium here today, OIL overpowered GSA Super League champions 2-0. OIL medio Zaidin Hmar converted a spot kick in the 40th minute while Manas Manjit Chetia netted one in the 69th minute.According to referee Rajen Basumatary, Manas Manjit was brought down by Railway goalkeeper K Bijan Singh, although it did not seem to be a foul, inside the box and awarded a penalty. Hmar made no mistake in shooting home.Manas increased the margin with a header anticipating a centre sent by Mintu Boro from the left flank. The railwaymen today hardly could show their form which they had in the recently concluded Super League. Today they were mere shadow of the champion team. Jilendra Brahma and Sibra Narzary were totally off coloured.NF Railway’s attacking front was virtually bottled up by the sturdy OIL defenders and never allowed their opponents to cruise into their striking zone most of the time. However, in the later stage, Sibra got two scoring opportunities which he could not avail. |
