Title - NORTHERN RAILWAY PARTICIPATES IN 10TH INTERNATIONAL RAILWAY EQUIPMENT EXHIBITION (IREE)

Hon’ble  Minister of Railways  Shri Mallikarjun Kharge inauguarated  10th IREE 2013 (International Railway Equipment Exhibition) o­n 3rd October, 2013 at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. He was accompanied by Chairman Railway Board Shri Arunendra Kumar.  IREEis the largest convergence of global rail industry which provides an opportunity to enhance knowledge and showcase the technological advancement & development in railway and its related sectors.  It is  organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII)in association with the Ministry of Railways, Government of India.

Northern Railway has also set up a stall at the exhibition to showcase its  innovations, strengths and milestones. With 7124 route kms, through 1019 stations and by running 1547 passenger trains daily Northern Railway holds premier position amongst all zonal railways. Northern Railway was created o­n 14 April 1952 by merging Jodhpur Railway, Bikaner Railway, Eastern Punjab Railway and three divisions of the East Indian Railway. The first passenger railway line in North India, which opened between Allahabad and Kanpur o­n March 3, 1859 is a part of Northern Railway. The Zonal Headquarters Office of Northern Railway is located at Baroda House, New Delhi. The Zone is divided into five  divisions  which are headquartered  at Ambala,  Delhi,  Firozpur, Lucknow and Moradabad. It remains the largest zone in terms of route Kilometers, even after the re-organization of the Indian Railways into 16 zones.  Bordered by the mighty Himalayas, Northern Railway is spread from the mountainous Shivalik range to the lush Tarai region and the majestic Gangetic plains.

It is this very strength and uniqueness of Northern Railway which  are  exhibited  in form of physical display of models, photographs and videos. Some of the major items exhibited at the Northern Railway stall  are:

·Railway in Kashmir Valley

·Important construction projects and station buildings

·Self propelled inspection cars- Parakh

·Resurrection of Steam locos by Northern Railway Workshops

·Rewari Steam Heritage Shed which has become  favourite destination of Bollywood

·Improvements and innovations for  Hill Railways -Kangra Valley Railway and Kalka-Simla Railway

·Exemplary work done by Delhi Division  o­n coaches of Shatabdi and Rajdhani trains

·Mechanized Laundry
