New Delhi: You can no longer cancel your ticket 24 hours before the journey and claim full refund.The railways claimed the move was aimed at stopping touts from selling cancelled tickets at high prices at the last moment and at allowing the wait-listed more time to comprehend whether they can undertake their journeys.
The railways said they have also reduced the time window wherein a passenger can claim back 75% of the booking amount you now need to cancel your tickets six hours prior to departure as opposed to the eight-hour window earlier.
The railway ministry on Tuesday revised its refund rules comprehensively and the new rules will come into effect from July 1.Railway is deducting a minimum per-passenger cancellation charge at a flat rate of Rs120 for AC first class/ executive class,Rs100 for AC-II tier/first class,Rs90 for AC IIItier,economy and chair car,Rs60 for sleeper class and Rs30 for second class.If the ticket is presented for cancellation within six hours before the trains scheduled departure of the train and up to two hours after its actual departure,the cancellation charge would be 50% of the fare,subject to a minimum charge.The exiting rules,which are valid till June 30,allowed the cancellation of the tickets up to 12 hours after the trains departure if the distance was 500 km or more.
According to the new rules,no refund will be granted on the reserved ticket if it is surrendered for cancellation two hours after the trains actual departure.Under the new rules,the time for filing of refund claims has been reduced from existing 90 days to 10 days of the trains departure in case of unforeseen circumstances like strike or any natural causes like floods.
