New Delhi: Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit has said that Union Urban Development Minister Kamal Nath has given his nod for the first monorail between Mayur Vihar and Chandni Chowk, a distance of 11-12 km.Dikshit said that Nath had given the nod for the monorail project to strengthen the transport system in the Capital. The monorails will ply in the congested areas of the city where Metro rails and buses cannot be driven.Dikshit said that the government had asked transport and infrastructure consultancy firm Rail India Technical and Economic Services (RITES) Ltd to do a survey to find out whether monorail is feasible for Delhi or not. The report has been given to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation. After studying the report, the government will take opinions from Malaysia, Japan and Germany as they have been successfully operating monorails. |
