MUMBAI: Railway minister Mukul Roy is likely to inaugurate the newly build Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT) building with ample parking space and a huge concourse area that can accommodate thousands of passengers of long distance train, on July 30.

LTT, with an average sale of 9000 platform tickets and 14,000 train tickets per day, is one of the busiest terminus in Mumbai.


A senior official said, 'Roy will inaugurate the new station building officially on July 30. He will also take review of the projects carried out Central Railway and Western Railway."

On July 18, General Manager of Central Railway Subodh Jain along with senior railway officials visited the LTT building to over see preparations for the minister's visit.

A senior official said, "The passenger reservation system (PRS) with 10 counters and unreserved ticketing system has already become operational in the new building. Final touches are being given to throw open the retiring room, 32-bedded dormitory and cafeteria."

The new building, at a cost of Rs 22 crore, will be completed within year. It has a circulating area, which is spread across 25,000 sq metres to accommodate 500 cars, prepaid taxi/auto stand and bus service. The concourse area of 3,300 sq metres is the biggest in Mumbai

CR also has plana to build an underground subway to connect all the platforms in addition to a Foot Over Bridge which is likely to be constructed within 8 months.

Another official said, "We have plans to shift more trains, especially from Dadar to LTT, once the work on the Santacruz-Chembur Link Road is complete. The platforms here are bigger in length compared to Dadar, thus opening up options to run longer trains."
