P.K. Biju, MP, has urged the Railways to stop the move to again bifurcate Palakkad Railway Division for creating the new Mangalore Railway Division. In a statement here on Friday, he said there were reports about the bifurcation of Palakkad Railway Division once again, threatening the very existence of Palakkad as a division.Palakkad Division was bifurcated a few years ago to create Salem Division, bringing down the income of the Division drastically. Hence, Palakkad Division would not survive yet another bifurcation, Mr. Biju said. This move would also dash the hope of Kerala for a peninsular railway zone required for the overall development of railways in the State, the statement said. It also said this move of the bifurcation of Palakkad Railway Division and the discrimination meted out to the Air India travellers from Kerala were recent examples of the Centre’s neglect of the interest of the people here.Mr. Biju said these issues would be raised in the next session of Parliament. He has urged the State government to intervene in the matter and stop the further bifurcation of Palakkad Railway Division. |
