Title - Monorail stations in Mumbai to have unique colour identity

MUMBAI: Mumbai's 20 monorail stations may have unique colours so that commuters identify them from a distance rather than verifying their names.

Metropolitan Commissioner Rahul Asthana recently insisted for unique identity to each Mono Rail station so as to enable commuters to identify Mono stations even without looking at the signages.

"Use diverse colour schemes, designs and or patterns, but give separate identity to all the Mono stations. Each station must be distinctive from the other. It will help commuters not only identify stations easily but also offer relief from the otherwise stressful sight of a concrete jungle", Asthana told contractors during his visit to Mono Rail car depot and Wadala and Bhakti Park stations.

Asthana also visited the under construction Operation Control Center, Ticketing Counters, Station Control Rooms, Signaling and Communication System and took an overview of the facilities that are being made available at the Mono stations and car depot.

"Signaling and Communication System is the heart of the Mono Rail. The crucial tests being conducted for the last four months are all controlled by this system. The stations are coming up nicely and will soon be completed. Frankly, we too are as eager to see Mono Rail commissioned as are the Mumbaikars", he stated. Ashwini Bhide, Additional Metropolitan Commissioner, MMRDA; S P Khade, Director, Rail Projects and Vishnu Kumar, Director, Mono Rail accompanied the Metropolitan Commissioner during the visit.
