A minor fire, attributed to a short circuit in a cable between the coaches, broke out in one of the compartments of the Karaikudi-Tiruchy passenger train as it neared the railway junction here on Saturday, creating panic among passengers.The Karaikudi-Tiruchy passenger was nearing Crawford around 9 am on Saturday, when passengers noticed smoke billowing out of the third and four coaches of the train, after which they pulled the emergency chain and stopped the train. Later, information was passed on to the guard who rushed to the spot and extinguished the fire with the help of a extinguisher available at the motor van. Soon, personnel from the Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services also rushed to the spot and inspected the coach.The train was then moved to the railway junction.
