Title - Metro work starts on Badarpur-Faridabad

New Delhi  : Metro has started work at the 14-km Badarpur-Faridabad corridor by shifting major electrical lines and transformers to facilitate the construction.Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) authorities are taking special measures to ensure minimum inconvenience to people during the process.This 14-km corridor which connects the Capital with Faridabad is likely to be ready by 2016 and would benefit thousands of people.It will have nine stations and is an extention of the operational 20.16 km long Central Secretariat-Badarpur corridor which was further extended from Central Secretariat to Kashmere Gate covering 9.36 km.Metro will be running from Kashmere Gate to YMCA Chowk with a length of 43.40 km covering 32 stations once it becomes functional.A 220 KV and a 66 KV double circuit transmission line will be raised for the construction of viaduct and proposed NHPC Chowk station.Shifting of electrical utilities in this corridor is a challenge for DMRC engineers as all 517 piers are affected and infringing with 2/3 circuits of overhead 11 KV electrical lines and underground cables is difficult.“Space for shifting of electrical utilities is not available at several locations. The electrical installations will be shifted after land is made available for which HUDA has already been requested, said a DMRC official.“This is the first time in DMRC’s history that the electrical lines are being infringed throughout the corridor at all piers and station locations,” added the official.

The official said DMRC has already started shifting of 11 KV/LT electrical lines and 63 pole mounted sub stations close to the Faridabad Metro alignment.
