Chandigarh The proposed metro in the city will run approximately 15 metres below the road level at most of the places. This information is contained in the draft detailed project report (DPR) for tricity’s ambitious metro rail project recently submitted by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to the Chandigarh Administration. Sources in the Administration said the DMRC would prepare the final DPR after getting the views of the Administration. An officer of the Administration said, “We will study the report and convey our objections if any to the DMRC soon so that they are incorporated in the final report.” The DMRC was given the task of preparing the report. Sources said in the draft report all the aspects of the metro have been covered. The financial models for the metro have also been discussed in detail . Sources said the intersecting junction of both corridors would be Matka Chowk. At this junction the metro routes are proposed at two levels up to 20 metres below the surface. No provision of parking has been made near the junction.The Metro along Jan Marg has been proposed at upper level and that along Madhya Marg at a lower level. The entry and exits to the underground metro station have been provided from five locations around the junction. Entry and exit points have been proposed with facility of elevators, escalators and lifts. The metro in Chandigarh will be totally underground. The metro track in Chandigarh has been proposed at approximately 15 metre below the road surface in most of the routes. As per the initial estimate covering 37.69 km, the metro rail project will be built at a cost of Rs 8,388 crore. Two corridors will be constructed in the first phase and the intersection station will be in Sector 9. Various works for the project such as topographic survey, geotechnical investigation, traffic forecast, planning of horizontal and vertical alignments have been done. The first corridor is North-South corridor which will pass along Jan Marg. This corridor starts from the capitol complex and extends up to the Gurdwara in Mohali. The East-west corridor starts from the transport terminus of Mullanpur and extends up to Grain Market of Panchkula. |
