The Metro authorities have decided to issue printed card (paper) tickets replacing the RFID-based tokens to tackle the Durga Puja rush of commuters from October 20 to October 26. The tickets will be physically checked and punched at the entry and exit gates. Protyush Ghosh, the deputy general manager and spokesperson of Kolkata Metro Railway, informed this on Friday. However, smart-card holders will be able to use their cards as usual and there will be dedicated gates for them at each station, he added. Meanwhile, to provide security assistance to the Metro commuters during their journey, the Kolkata Metro Railway has introduced a helpline 9007041908. This helpline service will be operated from the control room at Metro Bhavan. Mr Ghosh said, “The new service was opened on Friday. It is designed to boost the passenger security and to help in preventing carriage of inflammable articles in trains which might eventually cause serious damage.” He added, “The commuters are requested to send an SMS to or dial the helpline number if they come across any such incidents on the railway premises or during their journey on trains.” |
