Two days after the metro mishap in Andheri, two people were arrested.Sachin Krishna Valvekar, the site engineer, and Kalicharan Patra, the site supervisor were arrested by the Sahar police late Wednesday night.While Valvekar works with the Hindustan Construction Company (HCC), Patra is employed by Narendra constructions. The accused were produced before the Andheri metropolitan court on Thursday."We have registered a case under sections 304A for causing death due to negligence, 337 for causing hurt and 338 for causing grievous hurt by an act endangering life and personal safety of others and 114 for abettor present when offence is committed," said Jai Prakash Giram, senior inspector of Sahar police station.On Tuesday, the newly constructed staircase slab collapsed at the airport road metro station, killing one and injuring 16.The 11.4km and Rs2,356-crore Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar Metro railway project is being executed by Mumbai Metro One Private Limited (MMOPL).When asked if there were more arrests likely in the case, Giram said that the investigation is going on and the further course of action shall be decided as per the revelations in course of the investigation.According to the police, the accused have been found liable for negligence and not applying common sense of discontinuing work during monsoon. |
