Title - Megablocks cause inconvenience to commuters

MUMBAI: Commuters faced inconvenience on Sunday due to the rail megablocks on the Central and Harbour lines.

There were crowds on platforms as many were out with families on a holiday weekend.

The central railway operated a megablock on the UP Harbour line between Kurla and CST and the UP & Down Harbour lines between Vadala Road and Mahim stations from 11.30am to 3.30pm.

"Due to this block, all suburban locals will be running about 15 minutes behind schedule. The suburban trains were more crowded than usual," said a railway official.

The CR had alreadly issued an advisory for commuters, warning them to avoid travelling on foot board, roof top of locals and not to board extremely over crowded trains.

It also carried out a rail block on the UP fast line between Kalyan and Thane stations from 11.30am to 3.30pm on Sunday.

The frequency of services on the Main line was hit. The harbour line services between CST and Bandra/Andheri were suspended between 10.30am and 4pm, sources said.

The UP harbour line services from Panvel/Belapur/Vashi towards CST leaving Kurla from 10.43am to 3.23pm ran via Main line between Kurla and CST.

These trains did not halt at Currey Road and Chinchpokli stations.

Harbour line passengers for Bandra/Andheri were permitted to travel via Main line and Western Railway from 10am to 6pm.

On the western railway, there was a five hour jumbo block between Borivali and Goregaon stations on the fifth line from 10.35am to 3.35pm on Sunday.

The suburban services were not affected and it ran as per timetable, an official stated.
