The project report for Konkan Railway prepared by the Southern Railway had reckoned (Konkan Railway Corporation Ltd.) KRCL’s jurisdiction from Mangalore Central Station, including the Panambur line (Mangalore Port), according to KRCL’s founder Chairman Managing Director E. Sreedharan. He had told the Railway Ministry that the traffic projection and working expenses had been worked out and project viability was established on this basis only. The Railway Board initially had fixed KRCL’s boundary with Southern Railway to include Mangalore Central station. However, in 1995, the Board fixed KRCL’s boundary from Thokur Railway Station and left Mangalore Central, including the port line under Southern Railway’s jurisdiction. |
