Title - Make in India locomotives will transform Indian Railways

With made in India modern new locomotives and upcoming dedicated freight corridor, Indian Railways is eyeing a big change in its line of operation. Also a continuous process of redevelopment of world - class train sets railway will soon be able to provide safe and lavish experience to its passengers. In next few years, multiple ambitious projects will start to show their results.

The latest developed 12,000 horsepower Alstom's electric traction locomotive is a prime example of development. This world class modern locomotive is able to haul greater load more efficiently and at greater speeds.

Another Make in India project in Varanasi is conversion of diesel loco into full electric traction locomotive. According to railways, engineers successfully converted one unit of a WAGC3-class diesel locomotive in a record time of 69 days.

When it comes to diesel locomotives, 1,000 diesel electric locomotives will be made in India as part of 2.5 billion dollar project with GE transportation of US. Although initial batch of locomotives will be imported from US but most of the locomotives will be made in India in Bihar’s Marhowra.

Out of 1,000 locos, 700 would be of the 4,500 HP variety and the remaining 300 will be of 6,000 HP.
