Title - Madurai to Chennai Second Rail line ready

With the completion of Villupuram-Madurai track doubling project, the second rail line project between Madurai and Chennai is now officially completed with the speed trail taking place on the newly laid broad gauge line between Tamirapadi and Kalpattichatram in Dindigul district on Wednesday.

On this stretch of 450 km, trains now are not required to halt in between for more than one minute. Speed trial was conducted on Wednesday by Commissioner of Railway Safety along with senior officials of Madurai Division.

The estimated cost of this project came around Rs. 15,000 crore. “One reason for cost effectiveness was quick execution of the work.”

Railways have now planned to provide double line between Madurai and Thoothukudi, Vanchi Maniyachi and Nagercoil. The work to finalise tender is under way.
