The Divisional Railway Manager, Madurai, A.K.Rastogi, on Saturday, directed the railway officials to initiate immediate action for providing basic amenities, particularly supply of drinking water to passengers, and residents of the railway quarters.Accompanied by officials, Mr.Rastogi inspected the railway station here and listened to grievances of commuters. R.Sivakumar, president of the Pudukottai district railway user committee, and Syed Ibrahim Babu, secretary, pleaded for introduction of train service between Madurai and Tiruchi via Virudunagar, Manamadurai, and Pudukottai. They also wanted introduction of a day express service from Pudukottai to Chennai.Referring to the non-availability of staff at the railway station during the night, Ravichandran, secretary, Natpuravu Iyakkam, pleaded for posting a staff at the station.Karunakaran, president of Rotary Club of Palace City and A.Chandrasekaran, legal advisor, Pudukottai district railway user committee, pleaded for provision of basic amenities including protected drinking water for the passengers.The official also inspected the railway quarters and enquired on the facilities available at the premises . Mr.Rastogi assured the members of service organisations that immediate steps would be taken to provide basic amenities. V.Ajithkumar, Assistant Divisional Railway Manager, and Balaguru, station master, were present. |
