On platform number 16 of New Delhi Railway station under a pilot project Railway built an executive lounge equivalent to lounges available at air port. This executive lounge is in operation for almost 6 years.

This lounge is equipped with reclining chairs, buffet meals and deluxe suites and is unknown to most passengers. This executive lounge is run by IRCTC and similar such model will be recreated at Vishakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Agra Cantt and Jaipur railway stations.

IRCTC officials admit that only few know about this facility. On an average daily 150 passengers use this facility which jumps to around 350 passengers a day during peak season. Anyone can use this lounge after paying Rs 165 for every two hours. Use of deluxe suites invite additional cost payment.

“Access to these lounges is controlled by a smart card, which can track how many hours you have been inside. People usually use the suites when they have a train to catch the same day,” the official said.
