The Punjab Government on Thursday finalised the project report of the Rs.9,840-crore ambitious Ludhiana Metro railway, paving the way for its submission to the Union Government for final approval. At a high-level meeting chaired by Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal the “financial model” for the Ludhiana Metro was also approved “so that there should be least financial burden on people of Punjab”. Relief and resettlement policy for the project was also finalised.Mr. Badal said there should be minimum possible displacement of people due to the project and the Metro authorities could go for underground lines instead of displacing people, even if it might raise the price of the project. The 15.798-km Corridor I of the project will run from Ayali Chowk on Ferozepur Road to BBMB Power House on Chandigarh Road.Corridor-II, spanning over a distance of 13.035 km, will connect Gill village and Rahon Road octroi post. This corridor will have 13 stations -- six elevated and seven underground. It was also decided that the Ludhiana Metro be covered under the Delhi Metro Railway Operation & Maintenance Act, 2002, and other legal framework controlling Delhi Metro. |
