As a precautionary step, Konkan railway has issued an advisory to its motormen to maintain speed of 40 kmph during heavy downpour. In a couple days, monsoon will hit Konkan region that usually follows with heavy and excessive rainfall. Mumbai shoreline is part of the 720-km Konkan coast.

Konkan railway is also considered as one of the most treacherous hilly terrains from Kolad in Raigad district to Mangalore. After the advisory, loco-pilots will vary train's speed between 75 kmph to 90 kmph during the entire monsoon season instead of 100 kmph and will reduce to 40 kmph if encountered by heavy rain.

Meanwhile, for emergency purposes, mobile phones to loco pilots, station masters and field officials have also been provided.
