After a gap of nearly seventy years Indian railways might restore Kolkata – Khulna passenger train soon in July 2017. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the visiting Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate train service from Khulna to Kolkata from Benapole through video conferencing for a trial run on April 8. To extend co-operation between two countries commencement of train services will be a big step forward. Apart from train service a bus service will also be inaugurated between Kolkata – Khula – Dhaka. On part of railways this will be the second train service between the two countries after Maitree Express that started in April 2008. “More recently, in keeping with popular demand from citizens of both countries, the governments of India and Bangladesh have decided to start passenger trains between Kolkata and Khulna through this route from July 2017,” Eastern Railway said. |
