SURAT : Senior authorities of the Western Railway seems to have finally woken up from their deep slumber to resolve the long-pending problem of improper cleanliness arrangements at the Surat railway station.A 20-member team of the Western Railway led by senior Divisional Commercial Manager (DCM), ET Pandey had visited the Surat railway station on Tuesday and roughed up the station manager as well as the Area Railway Officer (ARO), HD Meena for their casual attitude towards the cleanliness at the railway station.Official sources said the senior railway authorities have immediately sanctioned the recruitment of additional sweepers and safai workers for keeping the railiway station clean."There are only 40 sweepers at the railway station. We have received the permission of recruiting another 30 sweepers for keeping the railway station clean" said a senior officer. Prakash Pradhan, who travels daily between Surat-Valsad said "The railway station is the face of the city. IT should be kept clean always to give a good impression to the visitors from other states and cities. There is a severe dearth of benches for the passengers on the railway station. The dirt and gargabe could be seen strewn on the railway platform or on the tracks"A coolie asking anonymity said "The sweepers are not doing their job properly and that the railway authorities here are not concerned for the cleanliness at the railway platforms". |
