Southern Railway has finally decided to delink the sharing arrangement of Insland Express and Kanniyakumari Express between Kanniyakumari and Bengaluru. This will benefit passengers of Kanniyakumari Express as it suffered the most due to consistent late arrival of Island Express.

A Railway Official said, "We have proposed to add two more rakes for Pearl City Express, operated between Chennai and Thoothukudi. This means, two rakes of Kanniyakumari Express will have rake link with Pearl city with the primary maintenance at Thoothukudi. On arrival of new coaches, the new rake link will be implemented."

On July 1, 2014 railway authorities linked rakes of Kanniyakumari and Island Express with primary maintenance at Bengaluru station.

The Island Express from Bengaluru is scheduled to reach Kanniyakumari at 3.20 pm while the same rake will depart as Kanniyakumari Express at 5.20 pm. Since the introduction of this new linking arrangement Kanniyakumari Express runs late consistently by 30 minutes to 5 hours.
