Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa today allayed the fears of people of North East living in Chennai city about their safety and assured them that her government would give them full protection.In a statement here, Ms Jayalalithaa said Tamil Nadu has always been peaceful and her government would ensure that people from all parts of India living in the state would not face any difficulty.'It has come to my notice that people from the North East, who are living in Chennai, are worried about their safety in the wake of the recent happenings in Assam,' she said.'I would like to assure them that they need not have any apprehension on this count. The police are already taking care of their safety. Tamil Nadu has always been a peaceful state, and my Government will ensure that people from all parts of India living in Tamil Nadu do not face any difficulty,' the Chief Minister said.Ms Jayalalithaa's statement comes in the wake of people from North-east going back home fearing their safety in the wake of massive exodus from Bangalore following the recurrence of violence in Assam.Since last night, people from North-East have been thronging the railway stations to catch the first available train following rumours that they would be the targets of attack in the wake of the happenings in Assam.More than 2,000 people had left the city since last night by the Chennai-Assam Express from Egmore Railway Station and by the Bangalore-Guwuhati special trains that pass through Chennai Central station. |
