Title - Indian Railways to shop locos globally to push trains to 200kmph

To push trains to 200kmph on Delhi – Mumbai and Delhi – Kolkata routes Indian Railway will shop locomotives globally.

The action plan to upgrade Delhi – Mumbai and Delhi – Kolkata routes is already on the table.

A senior Railway Ministry official said - We will acquire 10 high speed electric locomotives, which can haul trains at 200 kmph and beyond.

Currently Indian Railways operates its premium trains like Rajdhani on this route at 130kmph max. However the fastest Indian train is Gatimaan Express but it only operates between Delhi and Agra.

Tender will soon float and the successful bidder will be responsible for ransfer of technology of the high power locomotives and its maintenance for 13 years.

The total estimated cost is Rs. 500 crore.
