Title - Indian Railways shifting towards vacuum toilets as bio toilets fail
Posted by : RailEnquiry Admin on Apr 16, 2018 - 13:49:28 PM

Bio-toilets are slowly proving a hazard for travellers as they remain choke for most of the time. This has forced Indian Railways to install vacuum toilets in its premier trains like Rajdhani, Shatabadi and Humsafar. The idea behind replacing open toilets from bio- toilets was to make rail tracks defecation free, but although bio toilets make tracks free from defecation but as they choke easily, it becomes a nightmare for travellers due to foul smell they produce.

Last month Indian Railway procured 2000 vacuum based toilets for 13 trains that includes Dibrugarh Rajdhani, Bandra-Nizamuddin Rajdhani Special, Maharashtra Sampark Kranti Express, Kolkata-Ghazipur City Express, Ananya Express,  Bandra-Ghazipur City Express, Mumbai Veraval Express, Kaifiyat Express and Vivek Express.

Trials of vacuum toilets were carried out in the newly-launched premium train Tejas. Vacuum toilets costs around Rs. 2.5 lakh.
