GUWAHATI, Sept 27 – The Centre has approved installation of a real-time anti-poaching and wildlife surveillance system in Kaziranga National Park (KNP) in the line of the one already in place in Corbett National Park in Uttarakhand.
Altogether 12 surveillance towers with thermal cameras will be installed in the poaching-prone zones by the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA).

State Forest Minister Rakibul Hussain told media persons that the proposal to install the electronic eye surveillance system had been approved by the Centre and a team of experts had already started working on it.

He said that the thermal cameras could capture movements even at night which would be very effective in tracking anti-poaching movements in forest areas.

Each tower would be able to cover a radius of 10 kilometres and the height of the tower will vary from 30 to 45 metres.

Hussain said that two control room would be set up – one at Bokakhat and the other in the office of the PCCF office, Guwahati. Besides, a control room will be set up in NTCA office in New Delhi, too.

He also informed that as soon as any suspicious movement was detected, the message would be passed immediately to the authorities concerned and swift action would follow.

“In the first phase, eight towers will be installed and the priority would be given to areas where poaching activities have been on the higher side, like the Karbi Anglong side of KNP,” Hussain said, adding that the process of adding wildlife habitat is also being taken up with the Revenue Department to prevent straying of animals.

“At the moment, Rs 30 crore has been earmarked as installation cost and apart from that Rs 50 lakh will be used for intelligence gathering from different sources,” the Minister divulged.

The AC double decker train between Habibganj and Indore was flagged off by Minister of State for Railways Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury at Habibganj station in Bhopal today.This is the fifth AC double decker train since 2011. The other four are running in Jaipur-Delhi, Mumbai-Ahmedabad, Chennai-Banglore and Howrah-Dhanbad routes.Coaches of these trains have better passenger amenities such as reclining chairs, snack tables, bottle holders and automatic AC compartment entrance doors.AC double decker trains were introduced to cater to higher transport demand. Passenger carrying capacity of these coaches is higher with 120 seats against 78 in Shatabdi chair cars.

The Indian Railways has decided to run special trains between Dibrugarh in Assam and Kochuveli in Kerala to clear extra rush of passengers during the upcoming Dasara season.Train number 06335 Dibrugarh - Kochuveli special will leave Dibrugarh on September 29, October 13 and 27 as well as November 11 at 12.15am (midnight).The train will arrive at Visakhapatnam on Tuesdays (October 1, 15 and 29 and November 12) at 3.15am and depart at 3.35am to reach Kochuveli on Wednesday at 11.45am. In the return direction, train number 06336 Kochuveli-Dibrugarh special will leave Kochuveli on October 8, 22 and November 5 at 8.15pm.It will reach Visakhapatnam on Thursdays (October 10 and 24 and November 7) at 3.40am, depart at 4am and reach Dibrugarh at 9.55am on Saturday.   The train will pass through Kollam, Kottayam, Ernakulam Town, Coimbatore Junction, Katpadi, Chennai Central, Gudur, Nellore, Ongole, Vijayawada, Eluru, Rajahmundry, Samalkota, Vizianagaram, Berhampur, Khurda Road, Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Bhadrak, Balasore, Hijilli, Midnapure, Bankura, Adra, Asansol, Durgapur, Malda Topwn, New Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, New Bangaonl, Kamakhya, Guwahati, Lumding, Dimapur, Mariani and New Tinsukia in both the directions. 

The train consists of one second-AC coach, two third-AC coaches, four sleeper-class coaches, six general second-class coaches, six second-class chair car coaches and two second-class sitting-cum-luggage rakes.

He will also inaugurate a Village Resource Centre

Minister of State for Prime Minister’s Office V. Narayanaswamy will flag off the special train No.16858 Mangalore Central-Puducherry express at Mahe railway station at 4 p.m. on September 28. The Minister will inaugurate a Village Resource Centre established under the technical support of the Indian Space Research Organisation on the fisheries compound at Poozhithala. ISRO chairman K. Radhakrishnan will be present at the function.

A renovated Tagore park and the foundation stone laying ceremony of the Government Lower Primary School, Palloor North, sanctioned under the MP Local Area Development fund of the Minister will also be inaugurated in a separate function in the forenoon. The flagging off of the train in the evening will be preceded by a procession from the Indoor stadium to the railway station. Mahe MLA E. Valsaraj, Vadakara MLA C.K. Nanu, Azhiyur panchayat president Ayisha Ummar and senior railway officials will attend the function. The train will leave Mangalore at 1.45 p.m. and reach Puducherry at 10 a.m. on September 29. Train No.16857 Puducherry-Mangalore Central will leave Puducherry at 4.35 p.m. on Saturdays to arrive at Mahe at 6 a.m. and reach Mangalore at 9.50 a.m. on Sundays. The regular service of train No.16858 will start from Mangalore at 4.50 p.m. on Sundays to arrive at Mahe at 7.40 p.m. and reach Puducherry on Mondays at 10 a.m. The train will have stops at Villupuram, Cridhachalam, Ariyalur, Srirangam, Thiruchirapalli, Karur, Erode, Thiruppur, Coimbatore, Palakkad, Shoranur, Tirur, Kozhikode, Mahe, Thalassery, Kannur and Kasaragod.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, J Jayalalithaa, today urged the Centre to immediately roll back the 15 per cent hike in railway freight charges. In a statement, she said that this will affect the country's economy further and common people will be badly impacted.

The Chief Minister J Jayalaithaa stated that “'it is akin to adding fuel to the fire”, for the 15 per cent hike effective from October to June, which considered to be busy season. The hike in freight charges would result in increase in prices of all essential commodities, besides hike in prices of industries raw materials like cement, coal and iron, she added.

She added that the price hike comes at a time when the common people are going through various hardships. The people are in sorry state of affairs due to inflation and price rise. the Centre should immediately rollback the freight hike, urged the Chief Mnister.

The Centre, according to Jayalalithaa, in the name of dynamic pricing policy, has classified the nine-month period from October to June as 'busy season' and the three month July-September period as 'lean season' and has been levying enhanced freight charges during the 'busy season'. However, she pointed that during April to June 2011, the Centre had hiked and fixed the freight charges for coal by five per cent and for other products by seven per cent.

She said, from October 2011 to June 2012, the freight charges for all products was hiked by ten per cent and from October 2012 to June 2013, the Centre had the freight charges for food grains and chemical fertilisers by ten per cent each and for other products by 12 per cent for the 'busy season', she noted.

“Since all the months are the same as far as the railway freight transport was concerned, it was unjustified to artificially classify it as busy season from October to June and lean season from July to September,” said Jayalalithaa.

The hike in freight charges would result in increase in prices of all essential commodities, besides hike in prices of industries raw materials like cement, coal and iron and in turn it will lead to increase in the prices of construction materials and fuel the loan burden of poor people who were constructing houses, she added.

The Southern Railway has announced, the train services between Chennai Beach and Tambaram will be suspended on Saturdays and Sundays due to maintenance work.

It is said that due to maintenance work in the electric lines in the Electric railway track between Chennai Beach and Tambaram, trains will be suspended from today till 3rd of November. Reports said, instead, on Saturdays and Sundays 4 trains will be operated on express train tracks.

Mumbai: Kalyan will get a dedicated stand outside the railway station for autorickshaws that will strictly ply by the e-meter, said an RTO source.

Though e-meter has been fitted on most autos in the region, they opt to ply by share system. There are five-six share auto stands outside the station. “At least one lane/stand will be dedicated for autos that will ply strictly by e-meter,” said deputy RTO V R Gujrathi. He said those who do not want to share the auto and hire it for themselves can do so at this stand.

The process for setting up the stand was initiated on Friday. A detailed discussion took place between Gujrathi and auto union leaders.

The RTO also plans to set up display boards, which will guide commuters from the station to the stand. “We will also have all the share auto stands with boards mentioning the route and fare. Today, there is a chaotic situation and any new comer to Kalyan will be confused which autos he or she should board. We will mention the e-meter plying auto stand in red bold letters,” he stated.

“RTO should not just target auto drivers. Citizens too are at fault. They are not disciplined,” said Kalyan auto union leader Santosh Navale, adding that the union will support RTO.

Gujarathi has provided his personal cellphone number so that people can call him directly to lodge complaints.- Somit Sen

The RTO had conducted surprise checks at the auto stands for past three days and prosecuted 25 errant drivers. “We also cleared the entire station area (main road) of unscrupulous auto drivers and removed some of the encroachment. It is looking better today,” he added.
