BHUBANESWAR: The ECoR on Tuesday collected about Rs 2 lakh fine from passengers travelling without ticket during a massive 36-hour ticket checking drive here at the Bhubaneswar railway station.As many as 600 without-ticket passengers were caught during the check. In the drive, about 67 railway staffers were involved, including commercial supervisors, chief ticket inspectors (CTI), train ticket examiners (TTE) form Khurda Road division. Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel helped them in the operation."We took the decision not only to check unauthorized entry of persons into the platform, but also to spread awareness among the passengers. Some people, who entered the platform without ticket were also fined," said an officer of ECoR. During the drive, passengers were asked to buy tickets from the counters. Daily commuters were also asked to obtain monthly tickets. While the railway station witnesses movement of about 55, 000 passengers everyday, about hundred trains arrive on and leave from the four platforms. |

AHMEDABAD: A team of Government Railway Police (GRP) will accompany a 16-year-old girl to a village in Jamnagar after the girl accused her father of repeatedly raping her. GRP officials recorded her statement on Saturday at women observation home in the city. The girl will be sent for medical examination after registration of FIR in Jamnagar district.On Friday, Samina (name changed), was found by railway police at Kalupur Railway Station and was handed over to Childline volunteers. Samina told the officials that she had fled from her residence in a village near Jamnagar after her father raped her. She had boarded Saurashtra Express and had reached Kalupur on Thursday. She alleged that her father, an auto driver, molested and raped her and when she told her mother about it, she asked her not to mention it to anyone and did not confront him as she had expected. It broke her heart and after saving some money, she started off for Malegaon in Maharashtra to take refuge with one of her close friends and relatives.Samina told Childline officials that when she sought help from one of the youths to get details of the train, he took her for tea and snacks. He then took her to an unidentified location where he raped her and then left her back to the station.P P Pirojiya, inspector of GRP Kalupur told TOI that they have recorded the statement of the girl and have contacted their counterparts in Jamnagar district police. "We are yet to ascertain the rape in the city as she has changed her statements a couple of times. But she repeatedly tells police about her father due to which she had to leave home. A team of police along with NGO representatives will visit her village soon and will question her relatives to ascertain the incident. If any person is found guilty, he or she will be booked for the crime," he said. |

Railway employees, under the aegis of East Coast Railway Shramik Union, staged protests against the steps being taken by the government to reduce the ceiling instead of raising the ceiling limit on Productivity Linked Bonus (PLB).A dharna was organised by the employees at the Diesel Loco Shed on Tuesday in this regard. E Co RSU working president (central) D. Shaleel described the move to reduce the ceiling limit on PLB instead of increasing it as a retrograde step. She warned that the union would organise widespread protests against the decision. Branch president B. Suresh Kumar, secretary M. Venu and union leaders B.V. Mahesh, Ch. Eswara Rao and G. Appa Rao were among those who participated.A lunch-hour demo was held at the DRM s Office on Tuesday by the E Co R SU leaders. Assistant general secretary B. Damodara Rao said that the decision to organise protests was taken at the national council meeting held on September 13 in New Delhi. Protests were being organised at all divisional offices, workshops and units. Union leaders Appa Rao, Chella Rao and V. Narasinga Rao were among those who participated. |

NEW DELHI: Railways have decided to launch a new air-conditioned train between Amritsar and Lalkuan in Uttarakhand.The new weekly Amritsar-Lalkuan AC Express train will be operational every Wednesday from October 2 in both the directions, said a senior Northern Railway official adding "there was a demand by the local people for the train and it was included in the budget proposal."The AC Express train shall depart from Amritsar at 5.55 AM every Wednesday and reach Lalkuan at 8.50 PM the same day. In the return direction, the train will leave Lalkuan every Wednesday at 11.15 PM to reach Amritsar at 2.45 PM the next day.Consisting of 13 AC III tier coaches and three AC Chair Car coaches, the Amritsar-Lalkuan-Amritsar train will stop at Beas, Jalandhar, Phagwara, Ludhiana, New Morinda, Sahibzada Ajitsingh Nagar, Chandigarh, Ambala Cantonment, Jagadhari, Saharanpur, Roorkee, Laksar, Najibabad, Moradabad and Kashipur stations enroute in both the directions. |

ईद-उल-जुहा के कारण कोलकाता (भारत) से ढाका (बंगलादेश) के बीच सप्ताह में दो बार चलने वाली मैत्री एक्सप्रेस ट्रेन में कुछ अस्थायी निलंबन हुए हैं। यह ट्रेन कोलकाता से हर मंगलवार और शनिवार को, जबकि ढाका से हर बुधवार और रविवार को चलती है। बंगलादेश रेलवे के आग्रह पर भारतीय रेलवे ने मैत्री एक्सप्रेस को 15 अक्टूबर, 2013 (मंगलवार) को कोलकाता से 16 अक्टूबर, 2013 (बुधवार) को ढाका से प्रचालन संबंधी जटिलताओं के कारण नहीं चलाने का निश्चय किया है, क्योंकि ईद के दिन बंगलादेश में रेलगाडि़यां नहीं चलती हैं। उसके बाद ट्रेन की सामान्य सेवा बहाल हो जाएगी। |
