Tiruvarur District Railway Users Association has urged the Railways to divert Mannargudi-Chennai Mannai Express via Tiruvarur and Mayiladuthurai.In a communication to the Divisional Railway Manager, Tiruchi, S.Swaminathan, president of Tiruvarur District Railway Users’ Association, said that Mannargudi-Chennai-Mannargudi Express trains (16179/16180) since introduction, were being operated via Tiruvarur, Thanjavur, and Kumbakonam.With the introduction of Thanjavur-Chennai Uzhavan Express, the commuters from Thanjavur and Kumbakonam have got an overnight train to the State capital.So the Railways should divert Mannai Express via the shortest route – Tiruvarur and Mayiladuthurai.The diversion will help commuters from Tiruvarur and Nagapattinam districts save an hour in travel time and save their ticket fare. The present allocation of berths under general quota in the train is inadequate.Diversion of this train will add more berths to the general quota from the present pooled quota allotted to the passengers from Thanjavur and beyond.Mannai Express was introduced mainly for the benefit of the commuters from Tiruvarur, Mr.Swaminathan pointed out.

In order to clear the extra rush of passengers during the festival, Railways have decided to run festival special train nos. 02207/02208 Jammu Tawi- Ahmedabad- Jammu Tawi Weekly A.C. The 02208 Jammu Tawi- Ahmedabad Weekly A.C. Express festival special train will depart from Jammu Tawi o­n every Thursday from 03.10.2013 to 28.11.2013 (09 trips) at 09.30 a.m. to reach Ahmedabad at 01.20 p.m. the next day. In the return direction, the 02207 Ahmedabad- Jammu Tawi Weekly A.C. Express festival special train will depart from Ahmedabad o­n every Friday from 04.10.2013 to 29.11.2013 (09 trips) at 03.00 p.m. to reach Jammu Tawi at 08.00 p.m. the next day.

The 04604 Jammu Tawi- Pathankot DEMU (Five-Days-a-Week) festival special train will depart from Jammu Tawi at 09.50 a.m. to reach Pathankot at 12.20 noon the same day, while in the return direction, the 04603 Pathankot- Jammu Tawi DEMU (Five-Days-a-Week) festival special train will depart from Pathankot at 02.20 p.m. to reach Jammu Tawi at 04.50 p.m. the same day from Monday to Friday (except Saturday & Sunday) from 01.10.2013 to 30.11.2013 (61 trips in each direction).

The 04511 Saharanpur- Ambala Cantt. Train No. 22819 / 22820 of Visakhapatnam-Mumbai LTT-Visakhapatnam bi-weekly Express will be revised as 18519 / 18520 Visakhapatnam-Mumbai LTT-Visakhapatnam Express with effect from 10th September, 2013 ex. Visakhapatnam  and  from 12th September,  2013 ex. Mumbai  LTT.

Train No. 18519 Visakhapatnam-Mumbai LTT bi-weekly Express will depart Visakhapatnam at 23 30 hrs instead of 08 45 hrs and arrive Mumbai LTT at 04 40 hrs o­n the  next day  instead of 11 05 hrs with effect from 10thSeptember, 2013.

In the return direction, Train No. 18520 Mumbai LTT-Visakhapatnam by-weekly Express will depart Mumbai LTT at 06 55 hrs instead of 12 25 hrs and arrive Visakhapatnam at 11 15 hrs. o­n the next day instead of 14 45 hrs with effect from 12th September 2013.

Similarly, the days of service will be also changed.  Train No. 18519 Visakhapatnam-Mumbai LTT bi-weekly Express will depart Visakhapatnam  o­n Wednesdays and Saturdays as existing whereas Train No. 18520 Mumbai LTT-Visakhapatnam by-weekly Express will depart Mumbai LTT o­n Fridays and Mondays instead of Thursdays and Sundays.

KOLKATA: Anticipating a huge rush of upper-class passengers during the festival season because of a hike in airfares from October, South Eastern Railway (SER) has decided to run 17 pairs of fully air-conditioned trains with pantry car facilities towards Mumbai and Chennai.

All these trains will run to and from Santragachi between October 5 and December 2.

Oil companies hiked Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) prices by 7% earlier this month, resulting in a major increase in operational expenses for airline companies. As it is, ATF price is higher in Kolkata when compared with Mumbai and Delhi. Before the price hike, ATF cost nearly Rs 85,645 per kilolitre in Kolkata. In Mumbai, the cost was nearly Rs 77,632 per kilolitre while in Delhi ATF costs Rs 75,031 per kilolitre. After the price hike, ATF cost in Kolkata has gone up to over Rs 91,000 per kilolitre.

The period between July and September is considered a lean one by airline firms and they are forced to sell tickets at discounted rates. However, there is a huge rush from October onward and officials said that a fare hike of 25-30% can be expected after September.

"To clear the extra rush of passengers, we have decided to run nine pairs of Santragachi-Chennai weekly AC superfast specials. These trains will leave Santragachi every Saturday at 7pm and reach Chennai at 10.45pm on Sunday. On its return journey, the train will leave Chennai at 7.50am on Monday and reach Santragachi at 10.25am on Tuesday. These trains will have 15 coaches," said Soumitra Majumdar, CPRO, SER.

Seven of these will be AC-III tier ones and four will be AC-II tier. They will also have a first-class AC coach each. Every train will also have a pantry car for the benefit of passengers. The trains will have stoppages at Kharagpur, Balasore, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, Khurda Road, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, Samalkot, Rajahmundry, Vijaywada, Ongole, Nellore and Gudur," said Soumitra Majumdar, CPRO, SER.

The eight pairs of Santragachi-Mumbai (Lokmanya Tilak Terminus) weekly superfast AC special trains will leave Santragachi at 6.05am on Wednesdays and reach Mumbai at 1.35pm on Thursdays. On their return journeys, the trains will start from Mumbai at 12.45am on Fridays and reach Santragachi at 8am on Saturdays.

These trains will have the same compositions as the Chennai specials and will stop at Kharagpur, Tatanagar, Chakradharpur, Rourkela, Jharsuguda, Bilaspur, Raipur, Durg, Gondia, Nagpur, Wardha, Badnera, Akola, Bhusawal, Manmad, Nasik, Igatpuri and Kalyan.

"We expect these trains to be very popular as they will stop at important destinations. These trains are in addition to the 73 pairs of Puja special trains that we had already announced," Majumdar added.

The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has prepared a masterplan to establish railway connectivity between the northeastern states, Bangladesh and Myammar.According to NFR chief engineer (construction) Harpal Singh, a survey of one of the proposed railway projects connecting Tripura, Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh and Myanmar has already begun.

He said, according to the plan sanctioned by the Indian Railways, a 252-km railway track would be laid between Jawharnagar, the headquarters of Dhalai district in Tripura, and Darlong city of Myanmar through Kolasib, a town in Mizoram.

"Survey of the 109-km railway line between Jawharnagar and Kolashib has started and the rest 148-km track, between Kolasib and Darlong, will be surveyed in the next phase.

If all goes well, track-laying would begin in the next few years," said Singh.

Survey of the route from Jiribam to Moreh and then to Tamu in Myanmar via Imphal is expected to be completed by next March, said Singh.

Survey for the route connecting Aizawl and Myanmar from Sairang covering 226 km has already started, he added.

Railway authorities have also sanctioned funds for a feasibility study of a link between Belonia in Tripura and Chittagong in Bangladesh.

Two more short distance routes are being considered.

One of them would be a 80-km track connecting Panisagar in Tripura to Simanapur in Mizoram, while another would be a 45-km track connecting Patharkandhi in Assam to Kanmun in Mizoram, Singh added.

NFR is all set to issue work order to Ircon International Ltd to lay the railway tracks linking Agartala with Akhaura of Bangladesh, as per the bilateral agreements during the last visit of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to Dhaka, Singh said.

Passengers may now be unable to make railway reservations at Chennai airport as Southern Railway closed its booking counter there.

Railway officials cite a hike in rent by AAI as reason. The facility started in 1996 came in handy for air passengers who were planning travel to other districts from Chennai.

Southern Railway sold about 180 tickets a day on an average and paid around Rs. 5,000 a month as rent for the space given to them. In the new domestic terminal, though, AAI had asked them to pay nearly Rs. 15,000 a month, said an official of Southern Railway.

बिलासपुर. दुर्गा पूजा व दीपावली त्योहार के अवसर पर हावड़ा-मुंबई मार्ग की ट्रेनों में होने वाली भीड़ को ध्यान में रखते हुए भारतीय रेलवे ने 9 अक्टूबर से साप्ताहिक सुपर फास्ट पूजा स्पेशल ट्रेन चलाने का निर्णय लिया है। सांतरागाछी से लोकमान्य तिलक टर्मिनल के बीच यह स्पेशल ट्रेन 8 फेरे के लिए चलाई जाएगी।


यह ट्रेन सांतरागाछी से 9 अक्टूबर से 08060 नंबर के साथ तथा लोकमान्य तिलक टर्मिनल से 11 अक्टूबर से 08059 नंबर के साथ चलेगी। यह पूजा स्पेशल सांतरागाछी से अक्टूबर महीने में 9, 16, 23 व 30 तथा नवंबर में 6, 13, 20 व 27 तारीख को छूटेगी। वहीं लोकमान्य तिलक टर्मिनल से अक्टूबर माह में 11, 18 व 25 तथा नवंबर में 1, 8, 15, 22 एवं 29 तारीख को छूटेगी। इस ट्रेन में 2 जनरेटर कार, 1 पैंट्रीकार, 7 एसी-३ , 4 एसी-२ व 1 एसी-एक सहित कुल 15 कोच होंगे। ट्रेन बुधवार को सुबह 6.05 बजे सांतरागाछी से छूटकर खडग़पुर, टाटानगर, चक्रधरपुर, राउरकेला, झारसुगुड़ा होते हुए रात 8.15 बजे बिलासपुर पहुंचेगी। यहां से रवाना होकर ट्रेन रायपुर, दुर्ग, गोंदिया, नागपुर, वर्धा, बडनेरा, अकोला, भुसावल, मनमाढ़, नासिक, इगतपुरी, कल्याण होते हुए दूसरे दिन गुरुवार को 12.45 बजे लोकमान्य तिलक टर्मिनल पहुंचेगी। पूजा के दौरान हर साल स्पेशल ट्रेन चलाई जाती है।
नियमित ट्रेनों में अतिरिक्त कोच लगाने की भी पहल

मुंबई-हावड़ा के बीच बिलासपुर जोन से होकर गुजरने वाली एक दर्जन से अधिक ट्रेनों में त्योहार के समय भारी भीड़ रहती है। ऐसे में यात्रियों को ट्रेनों में पैर रखने तक की जगह नहीं मिलती है। जनरल डिब्बों की हालत तो और खराब रहती है। टिकट आरक्षण में वेटिंग लिस्ट 300 से अधिक हो जाती है। रेलवे इस रूट पर नियमित व साप्ताहिक चलने वाली ट्रेनों में भी अस्थायी तौर पर अतिरिक्त शयनयान कोच और एसी कोच बढ़ाने का विचार कर रही है।
