The passengers at the Chandigarh railway station had a harrowing time after three trains for the Chandigarh-Lucknow route were cancelled today.The trains were cancelled as the rail link between Jagadhari and Kalanaur was blocked after an over bridge collapsed due to flooding on Sunday evening.The Chandigarh-Lucknow Express (scheduled to depart at 5.15 pm), Unchahar Express (from Chandigarh to Allahabad, scheduled to depart at 4.20pm) and Sadbhavna Express (Chandigarh to Lucknow, scheduled to depart at 5.50 pm) were cancelled forcing the passengers to wait for several hours at the station.As the passengers heading for Lucknow had some hope for rescheduling of the Unchahar Express at 11.35pm, they preferred to wait for the train. “The train was to depart at 4.20 pm. So, we reached the station well in advance. Upon reaching here, we learnt that the train had been cancelled. We cannot even go back to home immediately since we came here from Baddi,” said Somwati, who was waiting for another train.Another passenger, Raju, who reached the station along with his children to board the Chandigarh-Lucknow Express, had spent anxious moments for several hours since going back to his home in Saketari was not easy. “We had an important function to attend in Lucknow. It is very difficult to travel with children. Now, we will have to wait for many hours to catch another train,” he said. The officials said they were trying to clear the lines. “The trains on this route had to be cancelled due to the bridge collapse. We are trying to clear the lines so that the passengers do not remain stranded for long,” said Senior CDM, Northern Railway, Gulshan Kumar.Another passenger, Sri Ram, said: “For travelling a distance of few kilometres till Panipat, we will have to wait for several hours since we have bought the tickets and cannot get the refund right now.”

Southern Railway will introduce a new train service named Velankanni Express between Chennai Egmore and Velankanni on 22nd June 2013.
T.No.16185 Chennai Egmore – Velankanni (Link) Velankanni Daily Express will leave Chennai Egmore at 23.15 hrs. and arrive Velankanni at 07.45 hrs. the next day.

T.No.16186 Velankanni – Chennai Egmore (Link) Velankanni Daily Express will leave Velankanni at 20.45 hrs. and arrive Chennai Egmore at 05.25 hrs. the next day.

Train No. 16185/16186 Chennai Egmore – Velankanni – Chennai Egmore Express will run with Train No. 16175/16176 Chennai Egmore – Karaikal – Chennai Egmore Express between Chennai Egmore – Nagapattinam – Chennai Egmore in both the directions with the existing timings.

The composition of the Velankanni Express will be 1 AC 3-tier, 2 Sleeper Class, 1 General Second Class and 1 second class-cum-luggage coaches.

The trains will stop at Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Peralam, Mayiladuthurai, Sirkazhi, Chidambaram, Cuddalore Port Jn., Tiruppadiripuliyur, Villupuram, Tindivanam, Melmaruvathur, Chengalpattu and Tambaram.

Advance reservation for the above trains will commence on 19.6.2013.

दिल्ली से अलीपुर द्वार जाने वाली महानंदा एक्सप्रेस (ट्रेन संख्या-15484) 20 जून को रद रहेगी। रेलवे अधिकारियों ने बताया है कि अलीपुर द्वार से आने वाली 15483 नंबर की ट्रेन मंगलवार को दिल्ली नहीं आई है। इसी वजह से 20 तारीख को 15484 नंबर की ट्रेन दिल्ली से रवाना नहीं होगी।

CHENNAI: A 45-year-old man, who stole a train driver's suitcase from the Tambaram railway station, was arrested at Dindigul when he arrived there by the Vaigai Express on Monday morning. The suitcase contained a key of a local train, detonators and documents issued by railways to motormen. Motormen are given detonators to alert passing trains in case of a technical snag or a possible danger ahead. The detonators and the key are still missing, though the box has been recovered. Railway police said that S Ramesh from Kadaperi near Tambaram was arrested after CCTV footage showed him walking into the crew room of the station and leaving with the suitcase at 1.50am on Monday. Investigation began after Eshwara Murthy, 47, a suburban train motorman, complained that the suitcase he had left in the room on Sunday night was missing on Monday morning. Motormen leave the suitcases issued to them at the station after duty hours. Police alerted all the railway stations about the stranger who was later caught when he stepped out of Vaigai Express with the steel box at Dindigul railway station. A team of policemen brought him to the city from Dindigul along with the suitcase on Tuesday. Police said Ramesh was drunk when he took away the suitcase. After arresting Ramesh, police opened the suitcase which did not have the detonators and the key. "He said he doesn't remember where he left them," said a railway police official. Motormen have been leaving their cases inside the rooms of the station for years. Nobody bothers to take these locked suitcases because it has markings notifying them as railway property," said a railway police official. After an unidentified man drove away a suburban train and rammed into a shunting loco at Vyasarpadi Jiva railway station in 2009, railway officials have made it mandatory for motormen to handle the steel box, which earlier the technical staff used to take between the station office and the trains.

पूर्वोत्तर रेलवे के छपरा जंक्शन से मंडुआडीह के बीच चलने वाली 15111 अप एवं 15112 डाउन इंटरसिटी एक्सप्रेस का ठहराव सुरेमनपुर स्टेशन पर किया जायेगा। रेलवे प्रशासन ने यात्रियों की सुविधा को देखते हुए छपरा औड़िहार रेलखंड के सुरेमनपुर स्टेशन पर 20 जून से इंटरसिटी एक्सप्रेस का ठहराव करने का आदेश दिया है। इस ट्रेन का अतिरिक्त ठहराव यात्रियों की सुविधा को देखते हुए प्रायोगिक तौर पर छह माह के लिए किया गया है। उक्त जानकारी वाराणसी मंडल के जनसंपर्क अधिकारी अशोक कुमारने मंगलवार को दी।

Top BJP leaders and more than 500 workers were taken into custody during the shutdown, a police official said."Normal life was not hit by BJP's shutdown in Patna and other district headquarters across the state," said an official at the police headquarters here.According to police, hundreds of BJP workers led by party leaders took to the streets across the state but failed to receive support of the people."Only BJP workers, leaders and some of their supporters with placards, party flags and banners in their hands, joined the protest during the shutdown," a district police official told IANS here.Bihar BJP president Mangal Pandey, however, told media persons here that it was a near-total shutdown. "People have supported the shutdown," he asserted.Top BJPs leaders including Ravi Shankar Prasad, Shahnawaz Hussain, Rajiv Pratap Rudy, and Sushil Kumar Modi were taken into custody when they protested here during the shutdown, said Patna's Senior Superintendent of Police Manu Maharaj.Hours after the shutdown began, nearly half-a-dozen people were injured in a clash here, and several trains stopped and roads blocked across the state.Several trains were forcibly halted and national highway blocked Tuesday as BJP workers and leaders began a state-wide shutdown to protest the "betrayal" by ruling party Janata Dal-United (JD-U) that ended its 17-year-old alliance Sunday.The cracks between the BJP and JD-U appeared when Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar opposed Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP's decision to make Modi its public face for the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.An angry BJP is observing Tuesday as 'Vishwasghat Diwas' in the state.Nearly half a dozen workers of BJP and JD-U were injured when they clashed and attacked each other with bamboo sticks and iron rods in Patna during the shutdown.According to police officials here, JD-U spokesperson Rajeev Ranjan and three other party leaders were injured when BJP workers attacked them following the clash.The clashes took place after the BJP workers raised slogans against Nitish Kumar and JD-U workers countered them by raising slogans against Narendra Modi, a police official said.The BJP workers stopped half a dozen trains, including long route trains, at different railway stations across the state."Several trains were halted," a police officer told IANS.Roads, including the national highway, were blocked at various places across the state."The strike supporters, mostly BJP workers, blocked important roads, including the national highway and state highways, at various place," said a police official.In Patna, the shutdown evoked mixed response with busy roads like Ashok Rajpath, Bailey Road, Patna-Danapur Road and Fraser Road being blocked.Shops and markets were closed in some areas.The JD-U has 118 seats in the 243-member assembly, four short of a majority, while the BJP has 91 members. There are six independents, while the Congress has four members.

मुम्बई. बेलापुर और सीवुड रेलवे स्टेशन पर यात्रियों द्वारा ट्रेन रोके जाने के बाद सिडको ने हाथ खड़े कर दिए. सिडको की हद में आने वाले 15 रेलवे स्टेशनों (हार्बर और ट्रांसहार्बर ) के रखरखाव की जिम्मेदारी सिडकों के कंधे पर थी, पर पिछले कुछ वर्षों से इन स्टेशनों का रखरखाव कार्य नहीं किया जा रहा था.
    यात्रियों ने कई बार इस समस्या से  संबंधित एजोंसियों को अवगत कराया था, बावजूद इसके अधर में लटका हुआ था, जिससे गुस्साए यात्री मंगलवार को बेलापुर और सीवुड स्टेशन पर ट्रेन के सामने खड़े हो गए. यात्रियों का कहना था कि जब तक स्टेशनों के मरम्मत का मामला नहीं सुलझाया जाएगा, जब तक गाड़ी आगे नहीं जाने दी जाएगी. यात्रियों के उग्र रूप धारण करने के बाद सिडको और रेलवे के वरिष्ठ अधिकारियों के साथ स्थानीय सांसद संजीव नाईक भी मौके पर पहुंच गए.  मौके पर पहुंचे. उसके बाद सांसद संजीव नाईक के सामने सिडको ने अपनी हद में आने वाले सभी स्टेशनों के रखरखाव के लिए मध्य रेलवे को 18 करोड़ रूपए देने का लिखित आश्वासन दिया.
    हार्बर और ट्रांस हार्बर के 15 स्टेशनों के रख रखाव की जिम्मेदरी अभी तक सिडको  के कंधे पर थी, जिसके लिए यात्रियों से वसूले जाने वाले सरचार्ज का बड़ा हिस्सा रेल प्रशासन द्वारा हर वर्ष सिडको को दिया जाता ता. वर्ष 2012-12 में मध्य रेलवे द्वारा सिडको को 40.2 करोड़ रूपए तथा 2011-12 में 34.5 करोड़ रूपए दिए गए थे, पर यात्रियों की माने तो इसके बावजूद स्टेशनों रखरखाव नहीं किया जा रहा था.
  मध्य रेलवे के मुख्य जनसंपर्क अधिकारी अतुल राणे ने इस डेवलपमेंट की पुष्टि करते हुए कहा कि सिडको के हद में आने वाले स्टेशनों का दैनिक रखरखाव अब मध्य रेलवे द्वारा किया जाएगा, इस संदर्भ में सिडको ने 18 करोड़ रूपए देने का वादा किया है, साथ ही मध्य रेलवे को स्टेशन परिसर ( बुकिंग कार्यलय, प्लेटफार्म वगैरह ) के कामर्शियल इस्तेमाल (विज्ञापन, वगैरह ) का अधिकार भी दिया गया है.
...तो फिर आंदोलन
स्थानीय सांसद संजीव नाईक ने रेलवे और सिडको के बीच हुए इस करार को देर आए, पर दुरुस्त आए की संज्ञा देते हुए कहा कि अभी तो हैंडओवर की प्रक्रिया कागज पर की गई है. अगर एक महीने के अंदर इस हकीकत के धरातल पर नहीं लाया गया तो यात्री एक बार फिर आंदोलन करने के लिए मजबूर दो जाएंगे.

AHMEDABAD: Western Railway with the help of Government Railway Police carried a drive against illegal ticket sellers at various railway stations under Ahmedabad division from 02 June to 15 June 2013.

Railway officials caught three people from New Bhuj, Sardargram and Chapi computerized reservation centres for selling illegal tickets. Railway recovered nine tickets from black marketers worth Rs 9,445. The railways in an effort to provide better service to passengers, Western Railway has come down heavily on the illegal travelers and touts. In a bid to stamp out ticketless travellers and touts, Western Railway conducted regular raids at Ahmedabad railway station and recovered more than Rs 7.5 crore.

Western Railway conducted regular checks in April and 1,78,235 cases of ticketless/irregular travel including unbooked luggage cases were detected. This resulted in a recovery of Rs 7.45 crore. Similarly, more than Rs 6 lakh was realized from 620 cases of illegal transfer of reserved tickets.

In recent times, Western Railway has got stricter in handling of touts and illegal travellers. More than 150 raids were carried out to nab touts running the illegal ticket syndicate. As many as 249 touts were detained and punished under the applicable sections of the Railway Act. The Railways ticketing system has always been rich grounds for touts to lure passengers.

Authorities have also deployed a 'Surakshini' squad at the station, to do away with beggars and unauthorized hawkers. In the last month, 1,023 beggars and illegal hawkers were apprehended. Of these, 654 were evicted, 354 were fined and 15 persons were sent to jail. Surakshini squads regularly remove beggars from the station.
