38 SPECIAL TRAINS BETWEEN DADAR AND SAWANTWADI ROAD

Central Railway has decided to run 38 special trains between Dadar – Sawantwadi to clear the extra rush of Passengers during summer rush. The details are as under –

01003 Special train will leave Dadar at 07.50 hrs o­n every Sunday, Tuesday and Friday from 21.4.2013 to 2.6.2013 (19 trips) and will arrive Sawantwadi Road at 20.15 hrs same day.

01004 Special train will leave Sawantwadi Road at 05.00 hrs o­n every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday from 22.4.2013 to 3.6.2013 (19 trips) and will arrive Dadar at 16.00 hrs same day.

HALTS: Thane, Panvel, Roha, Mangaon, Khed, Chiplun, Sangmeshwar Road, Ratnagiri, Adavali, Vilawade, Rajapur Road, Vaibhavwadi Road, Kankavali, Sindhudurg, Kudal and Zarap

COMPOSITION: o­ne AC chair Car, 8 Second Class seating, 2 General Second Class and 2 General Second Class cum guard’s brake vans.

RESERVATION: Bookings open from 19.4.2013.

All 24 property owners of land acquired for Adambakam MRTS (Mass Rapid Transit System) station will receive compensation shortly.The revenue department conducted an award enquiry into land acquisition for Adambakkam railway station in December 2012. The release of the money is expected to complete the acquisition of private lands measuring 3,038 sq. m. near Adambakkam station.At a meeting recently, the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) directed the special tahsildar for land acquisition to release money and take possession of the land required for Adambakkam MRTS station.However, some legal wrangles continue to obstruct the development of the MRTS link between Velachery and St. Thomas Mount. Land acquisition for a standalone alignment of 500 metres and for Puzhuthivakkam station is yet to be completed.The process was expected to be completed by February but legal proceedings delayed the acquisition and alienation of over 23,466 sq. m. of land needed for the Velachery-St. Thomas Mount line.A writ petition pertaining to the project by residents had already delayed the project by 18 months. The CMDA is trying to convince the court that the project is crucial to the development of the metropolitan area. “We have filed our counter,” said a CMDA official. Work on improving the Adambakkam station may be taken up after the land acquisition process is completed. But work on the other incomplete portions of the 5-km stretch will be delayed further.Private land measuring 6,550 sq. m. along the standalone rail alignment and 8,462 sq. m. near Puzhuthivakkam station were identified, but the acquisition is likely to be delayed because of opposition by 27 land owners affected by the standalone alignment and seven affected by work on Puzhuthivakkam railway station.The land acquisition process resumed last year after a Court stay was vacated. Residents began protesting after the original alignment was changed a few years ago.

BANGALORE: To clear the extra rush, the railways will have a one-way special train to ply between Mysore-Howrah on Thursday.

Train number 06209 Mysore-Howrah One Way Express Special will leave Mysore on Thursday (April 18) at 10pm, and reach Bangalore City on April 19 at 00.30am. Further, the train will leave Bangalore City on April 19 at 1am and reach Howrah on Saturday (April 20) at 11.30 pm.

The train will ply from Mysore via KR Puram, Bangarpet, Jolarpettai, Katpadi, Tirupati, Renigunta, Vijayawada, Eluru, Rajamundari, Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, Palasa, Brahmapur, Khurda Road, Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Bhadrak, Balasore and Kharagpur and then stop at Howrah.

It will have 19 general second-class coaches, 2 sleeper-class coaches and 2 second class-cum-luggage van.

A new railway passenger reservation system (PRS) was inaugurated at the Reserve Line sub-post office at Athikulam here on Wednesday.M.K. Alagiri, Madurai MP, inaugurated it in the presence of A.K. Rastogi, Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), and J. Charukesi, Postmaster General, Southern Region. Mr. Alagiri handed over the first ticket to a passenger on the occasion.The DRM said that it was the 10th PRS to be opened in post offices in the Madurai division. Passengers could get all services, including Tatkal booking and getting refund on cancellation, at the new facility. PRS centres had been functioning at the Madurai Bench of Madras High Court and V.O. Chidambaram College in Tuticorin. The Railways was willing to start reservation centres at reputed organisations, he added.The Postmaster General said that she would decide on the timings of operation of the PRS in consultation with the Railway officials. While the working hours for post offices start at 10 a.m., the PRS at Kodaikanal post office starts functioning at 8.30 a.m., she said.

COIMBATORE: Signal and Telecommunication workshop of southern railway which functions near the city can produce equipment for railways across the country, said S Manohar, chief signal and telecommunication engineer ( CSTE) of southern railway, Chennai. He was speaking as the chief guest at the railway week celebrations held at the railway community centre in Podanur on Wednesday.

He said that the workshop in recent years has been able to produce equipment for not just southern railways but also for the country. "The workshop can become a major industrial spot in the city," Manohar added.

Navita Singh, chief workshop manager said the workshop has increased the production than before. The total production of the workshop has increased from Rs49.69 crores in 2011-12 to Rs 60.53 crores in 2012-13. Many of these included specialised machinery for the railways department. Relays, point machines, emergency sliding booms all needed for the railways are supplied all over the country. The 'point machines' made by the workshop met 60 -70 per cent of the requirement of Indian railways. Higher capacity dies have been inducted for manufacturing of relay components, utilisation of CNC machines has been optimised by deploying better tools and improved software.

Some of the equipment supplied to southern railways, has helped to deal with train detentions. "Many of the specific machinery at the level-crossing gates were malfunctioning and needed replacement. We were able to supply for many of the level-crossing gates the required machinery which has helped the smooth running of trains," she said.

Navita said that production will be increased in the coming years. Innovative products which will be a solution to many of the pressing problems affecting the railway are in the making, she said.

GUWAHATI: The 58th Railway Week was held on Wednesday at Rang Bhawan, Maligaon, in the city.RS Virdi, general manager of NF Railway, praised the railway employees for their hard work. He said the employees, by dint of their hard work, could achieve almost all targets set by the Railway Board. "The Railway Week is an occasion where we recollect our glorious past and pledge to keep the Indian Railways flag flying high in the future," he said.Virdi gave away certificates and cash awards to meritorious officers, staff and sportspersons. He also gave away 34 running efficiency shields of various departments for maintaining high standards of efficiency.A total of 93 personnel, including officers and other staff of various departments, including 22 sportsmen, one scouts and guides, one staff of cultural organization and two teachers were given merit certificates and cash awards for their outstanding service. Virdi also presented 26 group awards.RK Singh, general manager (construction) gave away 64 individual merit certificates, two efficiency shields and five group awards on the occasion to officers and staff of a construction organization.He appreciated the team effort of the organization in executing important projects.

Chandigarh:
After a wait of 12 years, the Chandigarh-Ludhiana rail link will finally be made operational from April 19. The first train from Chandigarh to Amritsar via Ludhiana using the new track will shorten the journey from Chandigarh to Ludhiana by half an hour. Earlier, the journey between the two cities via Sirhind used to take two hours.The train from Chandigarh will now pass through Mohali, Kharar, Junction Morinda, New Morinda, Khamano, Samrala, Lallkalan, Sahnewal and Dhandar before reaching Ludhiana. Divisional railway manager PK Sangi said the department had received a communication to advance the departure from Chandigarh to 5.30 pm from 6.50 pm.He said the department was yet to receive the copy of the safety certificate from the Chief Commissioner of Rail Safety (CCRS) but was expected to be received by tomorrow.As the timing of the train has been revised, the passengers who have already booked their tickets will be informed through telephone, text messages and notices, which will be put up at the railway station and reservation counters.The Chandigarh-Ludhiana link was announced in the Union Railway Budget of 2000. The work on the project was started by Northern Railway in 2001 but due to fund delays and operational hurdles, the work remained held up. Railway Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal had announced that the link would be made operational by March 31.The project had been divided into three phases. The 45-km first phase from Chandigarh to New Morinda via Mohali and Kharar was completed in 2006. Trains like the Amritsar Duronto and the Jan Shatabdi were already running on this section. The 14-km third phase from Sahnewal to Ludhiana was completed in November, 2012. The 51-km second phase between New Morinda and Sahnewal has now been completed.
