Due to torrential rains and floods in Kerala and Kanniyakumari District of Tamilnadu, several trains originating/arriving/passing through flood/landslide affected areas had to be cancelled by the Railways from 15.08.18 o­nwards. It is seen that many passengers who had to move out from home to safer places due to the floods have been able to go back to their homes o­nly after many days and still many passengers are not able to retrieve the details of their tickets for getting Ticket Deposit Receipts (TDRs) from stations after surrendering the tickets or for filing TDRs online for E-tickets booked through the IRCTC website. Railways have therefore decided as a very special case to permit issue of TDRs at any station up to September 20 (as against the normal rule of up to three days from the booked date of journey). The public can apply to the Railways for refund  after obtaining TDR from stations as above. 
Similarly, passengers who have booked E-tickets are also permitted, as a special case, to submit claims for refunds addressed to The Chief Claims Officer, Southern Railway, Moore Market Complex, Chennai- 600 003 up to September 20.
All members of the public may take note of this special facility extended by the Southern Railway for Kerala customers.

The Railways are happy to inform that discount in fare/exemption from service charge being provided for the following type of train tickets have been further extended as detailed below:- 

• For E – Tickets and I – Tickets, when payment is made through Internet Booking, there will be an exemption from payment of service charge - This exemption will be available till 31stMarch 2019.   
• For Season Tickets o­n Suburban Section if the payment is made through Credit/Debit Card, there will be a 0.5 percent discount o­n total applicable fare o­n Season Tickets (Monthly, Quarterly, Half Yearly and Yearly over the Suburban Section) – This discount will be available till 31st March 2019 
• For PRS (Reserved) Counter Tickets, when the payment for the same is made by UPI (Unified Payment Interface) including BHIM application, a 5 percent discount on total value of base fare for the minimum ticket fare of Rs.100 and above – with maximum discount allowed being Rs.50 – is being given at present. This discount will be available till 13th of June 2019. 

Indian Railways will be organizing a fortnight long special Cleanliness Campaign (Swachhta Hi Seva - Packhwara) this year from September 15 to October 2. Here are the highlights of the campaign 

• Railway staff and their families will be sensitised o­n the need to ensure cleanliness in the vicinity of their habitat. Nukkad Nataks, Workshops and training programmes will be organized. 
• All Divisions will organize seminars o­n Sanitation and upkeep of railway stations by involving NGOs. 
• Painting & Poster competitions o­n the theme of cleanliness will be organized in schools. 
• Awareness will be made through Public Announcement System and through posters encouraging more and more use of paperless travel. 
• A campaign for 'fill the dustbin', 'donate the dustbin' will be taken up to spread awareness among the rail users. 
• Plastic bottle crushers should be installed with CSR funding. 
• All Efforts will be made to ensure at least o­ne platform at important stations to be "zero waste" 
• Train inspections will include checks o­n toilets and quality of linen. 
• Cleaning of drains to be undertaken. 
• Required amenities in the circulating areas of station complexes will be ensured and unauthorized encroachments removed.  
• Participation under CSR be called for setting up of waste to energy plants in railway Cleaning of all canteens will be taken up. 
• Samples of food will be taken for checking and feedback of passengers obtained o­n the quality of food served. 
• Intensive inspection of all water installations including filter plants, sources of water supply, water taps for drinking water at stations as well as trains will be done. 
• People will be encouraged to desist from open defecation in areas approaching railway stations or o­n tracks. 
• On October 1 detailed reports of the campaign will be shared with Press/Media to encourage public awareness.
