Burdwan (WB) :  Eight sophisticated pistols and ammunition were recovered from a youth travelling on Jamalpur Express at Burdwan station today. Pandab Kumar Singh was arrested after eight 9 mm pistols, 16 magazines and 70 rounds of ammunition were recovered from a bag he was carrying. He was nabbed when was getting down from a reserved compartment of the Howrah-bound train, Railway police said. Singh said he had brought the consignment from Munger in Bihar and the arms and ammunition were meant for Cuttack. On  GRP had earlier also on several occasions seized arms consignments from the same train. The seizures were made when the train halted at Burdwan junction. "We are investigating the case for any militant connection. The youth is being interrogated and we will reach a conclusion soon," said the police.

The State government formally approved the Bangalore Commuter/Suburban Rail System (CRS) earlier this week.V Manjula, Commissioner, Department of Urban Land Transport, said on Saturday that the department was now in the process of preparing a detailed project report (DPR) for Phase I-A of the CRS.“We have received the approval from the government for Phase I-A of the CRS and are in the process of preparing the DPR,” she confirmed.As per the RITES (Rail India Technical and Economic Service) report, submitted in August 2012, Phase I-A will provide electrified train facilities on the two routes of Bangalore-Bangarpet and Bangalore-Mandya. However, putting a spanner in the aspirations of the State government to start the commuter rail system, the Railways has said it cannot fund the project in Bangalore. While it has given its ‘in-principle’ approval for the project, the Railways has said it will not absorb any financial burden for the project.

Rail systems facing loss

According to sources in the Railway Board, all the suburban railway systems in the country are making losses. So, speculations are rife over the Railways bearing portions of the cost to start the project.

Manjula said the department had already approached the Railways for a partnership deal on the project, but elicited no response.

“We will approach the Railways again and seek their support,” she said.

While the initial cost estimate for Phase I-A is put at Rs 174 crore, not factoring in the Binny Mills land cost, the final figures of the financial burden are yet to be estimated.

With the minimum infrastructure available for starting the Commuter/Suburban Rail System along the two lines, the government appears to have favoured this portion of the project before Phase I.

‘Acquire Binny Mill’

Meanwhile, in its suggestions, the Railways has also made it clear that the State government would have to acquire the Binny Mill land for the CRS. The RITES report had said: “To put in simple and plain words, without the Binny Mill land, there may not be a Commuter/Suburban Rail System.”

It is said the Railways does not want to share any of its platform infrastructure for the CRS at the City Railway Station as it would hamper the existing services to and from the heart of the City.

It has been a long wait for the passengers for the journey on a day train from Tuticorin. The much awaited rail service was announced in the Railway Budget in February 2013, many passengers said.As soon as the rail service was announced, many welcomed it in Tuticorin, M.Piramanayagam, secretary, Tuticorin District Passengers Welfare Association, said. Passengers started making enquiries about the introduction of the Tuticorin–Chennai Link Express as announced in the budget, he said.

The eight-bogie train from Tuticorin was expected to connect the Guruvayur-Chennai Express at Vanchi Maniyachi. With this in mind, representations were made to the railway authorities, seeking speedy introduction of the day train from Tuticorin.

He also added that the association had made a plea to the authorities to introduce special and additional train services to Tuticorin ahead of the annual feast of Our Lady of Snows Shrine Basilica slated for August 5.

रेलवे बोर्ड की एगजेक्टिव डायरेक्टर (सेफ्टी) विजय लक्ष्मी ने शनिवार अमृतसर रेलवे स्टेशन का दौरा किया। विजय लक्ष्मी के इस दौरे से स्थानीय अधिकारियों में हड़कंप मचा रहा। ईडी ने अपने दौरे के दौरान अमृतसर रेलवे स्टेशन का हर कोना खंगाला। आगे-आगे चल रही महिला अधिकारी के पीछे फिरोजपुर डिवीजन व स्थानीय अधिकारियों की पूरी फौज मौजूद थी। अधिकारियों की रेलवे स्टेशन पर आमद से एक बात तो साफ हो गई है कि उनके आने पर ही स्टेशन पर सफाई व्यवस्था सही रखी जाती है।
ईडी सेफ्टी विजय लक्ष्मी ने रेलवे स्टेशन पर स्थित खानपान के स्टालों की चेकिंग से अपना दौरा शुरू किया। उन्होंने स्टालों पर ड्यूटी देने वाले कर्मियों के मेडिकल प्रमाणपत्र चेक किए।
विजय लक्ष्मी ने रेलवे स्टेशन के प्लेटफार्मो पर स्थित खानपान के स्टालों व प्लेटफार्मो की सफाई व्यवस्था का जायजा लिया। जहां उन्हें थोड़ी बहुत भी गंदगी दिखी उन्होंने अधिकारियों को आदेश दिया कि वह सफाई व्यवस्था दुरस्त रखें।
विजय लक्ष्मी ने अधिकारियों के साथ प्लेटफार्म नंबर एक पर बने भोजनालय में दस्तक दी। पहले तो उन्होंने भोजनालय के रसोईघर में चेकिंग की। इसके बाद उन्होंने यात्रियों से यह जानकारी ली कि जो खाना उन्हें परोसा गया है उसकी क्वालिटी से वह संतुष्ट हैं या नहीं।
इसके बाद उन्होंने विभिन्न प्लेटफार्मो का दौरा करने के अलावा पार्सल कार्यालय व रिटायरिंग रूम, वेटिंग हाल, महिलाओं व पुरुषों के लिए बने वेटिंग रूम का जायजा लिया।
ईडी ने रेलवे यार्ड का दौरा किया। उन्होंने अधिकारियों को यह निर्देश दिए कि जब तक यार्ड का पूरा ट्रैक नहीं बदला जाता तब तक वह सतर्कता से काम करें। ईडी विजय लक्ष्मी द्वारा प्लेटफार्म नंबर एक पर स्थित पूछताछ केंद्र की जांच की। वहां ड्यूटी देने वाले कर्मियों का गर्मी में बुरा हाल होते देख उन्होंने पूछताछ केंद्र में एसी लगाने का आदेश दिया है।

रेलवे बोर्ड की एगजेक्टिव डायरेक्टर सेफ्टी विजय लक्ष्मी से दैनिक जागरण द्वारा पूछा गया कि उन्होंने चेकिंग के दौरान क्या खामियां पाई हैं तो उनका कहना था कि वह मीडिया को इसके बारे में कोई जानकारी नहीं दे सकती। जब उनसे पूछा गया कि रेलवे स्टेशन पर तब ही सफाई होती है जब कोई आला अधिकारी आता है। अगर इस तरह की चेकिंग रेगुलर तरीके से हो तो स्टेशन का हुलिया बदल सकता है। इस पर विजय लक्ष्मी का कहना है कि रेलवे बोर्ड द्वारा थोड़े-थोड़े समय के अंतराल में नियमित रूप से चेकिंग की जाएगी। स्टेशन पर चेकिंग करने से पहले ईडी विजय लक्ष्मी ने स्टेशन अधीक्षक कार्यालय में बने वीआईपी रूम में अधिकारियों के साथ एक बैठक की। बैठक में हुई बातचीत की जानकारी नहीं मिल पाई।

AMRITSAR: India’s Customs Department seized 10 kilograms of heroin from a Pakistan cargo train at the Attari Railway station. The drugs were concealed in a sealed cargo department amidst cement bags.It appears that this particular train has transported heroin in a similar fashion prior to this week’s bust. Recently 105 kilograms and later seven kilograms were seized. Cargo trains are a major channel for drug smugglers to transport heroin from Pakistan to India.Customs had nearly cleared the train for off-loading when during the search a mysterious bag found near the cement bags raised suspicion amongst officials. Upon further examination the narcotics were discovered.Officials will now investigate the origins and ownership of the cargo consignment.

Western Railways saw a sizable drop in sales but hike in fares helped to replenish its coffers with high returns.


If you’ve been enjoying lesser crowds to jostle with in the local trains on Western Railway then here is why. Ticket sales data for May and June in WR reveal a drop of a whopping 1.1 crore. Officials agree that this is sharpest fall in sales in the month of June compared to several past years.

While May saw a drop of around 54.08 lakh passengers, June fared far worse with a drop in  43.28 lakhs passengers in the period between June 10 and 20. The overall drop in passengers in June was 59.36 lakhs.

But there is no love lost for WR officials. Despite the drop in ticket sales, the hike in ticket fares earlier in January has ensured that earnings are up. Earnings for the month of June this year stood at Rs56.62 crore, up from Rs53. 18 crores for the month of June last year.

Officials say the drop is due to ‘an unusually high’ number of Mumbaikars vacationing outside the city and heavy rains.

City folk seem to be on vacation, this is confirmed by the WR Passenger Reservation Centre data that shows an average of 21,400 people people left the city on its trains every day in June this year. This compared to 11,200 people who went out of town last year. That’s a difference of 10,200 more passengers per day compared to the previous year.

“This rise in people holidaying is around 91 per cent above last year’s June figures. It is an unusual phenomenon. The unusually heavy rains in June this year has also played a role. Correspondingly, ticket sales across Mumbai on June 15-16 was poor owing to heavy showers,” said an official.

Another reason, say officials is the increase in half-yearly and yearly railway passes, introduced from April 1, earlier this year.

WR sold over 16 lakh such passes in April, around 8 lakhs in May and 11 lakhs in June. “These are passengers who will not turn up at the ticket counters at least till September. Bu even then the ticket drop is unexpected,” said officials.

पलपल इंडिया ब्यूरो, मुंबई. रेल प्रशासन की लाख कोशिशों के बावजूद तत्काल टिकटों की काला बाजारी थमने का नाम नहीं ले रही है. प्राप्त जानकारी के अनुसार अभी भी महानगर के आरक्षण कार्यालयों से तत्काल टिकट निकाल कर गोरखपुर, लखनऊ, बस्ती और गोंडा भेजे जा रहें. तत्काल टिकटों की दलाली का यह नेटवर्क लखनऊ से संचालित किया जा रहा है.

प्राप्त जानकारी के अनुसार महानगर से आरक्षण कार्यालयों से तत्काल टिकट निकाल कर हवाई जहाज के जरिए लखनऊ भेजे जा रहे हैं, जहां से टिकटों का डिस्ट्रीब्यूशन हो रहा है. जिसके लिए 4 से 5 गुणा कीमत वसूली जा रही है.

पुष्पक, कुशीनगर, अवध एक्सप्रेस पर जोर

पुष्पक, कुशीनगर, अवध एक्सप्रेस के साथ गोरखपुर- एलटीटी एक्स्प्रेस को टिकटों पर दलालों का विशेष जोर है. क्योंकि इन गाडिय़ों को टिकटों की आपूर्ति के लिए दलालों को कम से कम 18 से 20 घंटे का समय मिल जाता है.

सीएसटी, कल्याण, चर्चगेट बना अड्डा

मध्य रेलवे में सीएएसटी, डोम्बिवली, कल्याण, अंबरनाथ पश्चिम रेलवे में चर्चगेट, मुम्बई सेंट्रल, वसई और विरार दलालों का प्रमुख अड्डा बनकर उभारा है. जहां बुकिंग सुपरवाइजर और आरपीएफ से आशीर्वाद से दलालों के पहला नंबर आराम से मिल जाता है. इसके अलावा कुछ पोस्ट आफिसों (जहां पीआरएस है) में भी दलालों के आदमी सक्रिय है.

फर्जी ई-टिकट का भी इस्तेमाल

इतना ही नहीं, बल्कि इन दलालों द्वारा महानगर के पीआरएस से निकाले गए तत्काल टिकटों को कंम्प्यूटर के जरिए ई टिकटों के फार्मेट में बदलने के कुछ मामले भी सामने आए है. रेलवे के एक वरिष्ठ अधिकारी ने कहा के अगर किसी कारणवश मुम्बई से भेजे गए टिकट समय पर लखनऊ (जहां से डिस्ट्रीब्यूशन होता है) नहीं पहुंच पाते तो उसी पीएनआर पर कंप्यूटर के सहारे ई टिकट जनरेट कर लिए जाते हैं. 15 जून को लखनऊ मंडल द्वारा इस तरह का एक मामला पकड़ा भी जा चुका है, जिसमें  मुम्बई पीआरएस से जारी किए गए तत्काल टिकट को ई फार्मेट में बदलकर तीन लोग गोरखपुर-एलटीटी स्पेशल गाड़ी से यात्रा कर रहे थे. इसके अलावा लखनऊ में ही गोरखपुर-एलटीटी-एक्सप्रेस के एएस-1 कोच में 36 यात्रियों के तत्काल टिकटों के साथ श्रवण कुमार गौड़ तथा  कुशीनगर से एस-9 में भी 36 यात्रियों के तत्काल टिकटों के साथ विकास तिवारी नामक दलाल को भी रंगे हाथ पकड़ा जा चुका है.

क्या कहता है रेल प्रशासन

रेलवे के एक वरिष्ठ अधिकारी ने कहा कि तत्काल टिकटों का कालाबाजारी रोकने के लिए तरह-तरह के प्रयास किए जा रहे हैं. बुकिंग समय सीमा को 5 दिन के कम कर 24 घंटे कर दिया गया है. तत्काल टिकटो की बुकिंग से समय को भी बदलकर 8 बजे बदल कर  10 बजे से  कर दिया गया है. दोपहर 12 बजे तक अधिकृत ई एजेंटों द्वारा की जाने वाली तत्काल टिकटों की बुकिंग रोक लगा दी गई है. साथ ही संबंधित यात्री के  आई कार्ड के साथ टिकट निकालने आने वालों के आई कार्ड का भी निरीक्षण किया जा रहा है.
