New Delhi: A Delhi Metro train left the Central Secretariat station Tuesday afternoon with a bag of a commuter who could not get in stuck between the doors.As the doors of the Delhi University bound eight-coach train closed at the station, a young man who had tried to board it tried desperately to pull out his bag.Others on the platform tried to help him, while those inside the coach tried to push out the bag.But the train took off even as the startled commuter began running with it on the platform.One passenger contacted the driver through the emergency speaker system but the train didn't halt -- and the bag remained stuck between the doors till the next station at Patel Chowk.

Services on the Airport Express line will operate for longer hours with better frequency from the 1st of August, 2013 onwards.The first train service from both the terminal stations viz. Dwarka Sector 21 and New Delhi will start at 4:45 AM instead of the present time of 5:30 AM at New Delhi and 5.15 AM at Dwarka Sector 21. The last train will, however, continue to depart from the New Delhi station at 11.30 PM and from Dwarka Sector 21 at 11.15 PM.This change in schedule will tremendously help the passengers of the Shatabdi Express trains which depart from the New Delhi railway station early in the morning and reach back late in the night.Now the Shatabdi Express passengers coming from the Airport or the nearby areas will be able to take the early morning services of the Airport link and reach the New Delhi railway station. Similarly, the passengers arriving by the train at New Delhi late in the night, with the intention of going to the airport will be able to take the last Airport link service from New Delhi. All Shatabdi Express trains reach New Delhi by latest 11.05 PM. However, the Airport Express services will wait for maximum15 more minutes up to 11.45 PM in case of any delay in these trains.The frequency of the trains during peak hours will also be revised to 10 minutes and 30 seconds instead of the existing 15 minutes from the 1st of August. During off peak hours, it will remain 15 minutes as before. As a result, the daily train trips will increase to 180 from 146 at present.

The morning peak hours are from 7.30 AM to 12 noon while the evening peak hours are from 3 PM to 7.30 PM. The peak hours have been decided keeping in view the timings of the arrival and departure of flights at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (Terminal 3).

The operating speed of the trains on the Airport Express Line will also be increased to 80 km/ph from the existing 70 km/ph.

The changes have been made on the basis of the feedback received from the commuters of the line. After taking over the operations of the line from the 1st of July, 2013, DMRC had sought the feedback of the commuters in order to further improve the quality of the services.

At least 35 people were injured, five of them seriously, in a head-on collision of two trains in western Switzerland late Monday, police said. One person had yet to be recovered from the wreckage.
The crash happened near the station of Granges-pres-Marnand shortly before 7 p.m. on a regionalline about 50 kilometres southwest of the capital, Bern. It came just days after 79 people were killed in a high-speed train derailment in Spain.
Photographs from the Swiss site showed the two regional trains locked together, partly lifted off the tracks by the force of the collision.
Police said several ambulances, fire engines and a helicopter were involved in the rescue operation. Rescuers had not yet been able to reach the driver's cabin of one of the trains, said the police in the canton of Vaud in a statement.
News website 20min.ch quoted Patricia Claivaz of the Swiss rail company CFF as saying the trapped man was the driver. It was unclear if he was alive.
According to police, the five people who were seriously injured were taken to the hospital in the nearby city of Lausanne.
Earlier, Swiss media had cited police as saying 44 were injured, four of them seriously. It wasn't immediately clear why the injury figure had been lowered.
Switzerland's rail system is considered among the best and safest in the world. Accidents are rare, though three years ago the country's popular Glacier Express tourist train derailed in the Alps, killing one person and injuring 42.

MANGALORE: After Puttur Railway Yatri Sangha, the Kanyakumari District Railway User's Association (KKDRUA) has also joined the chorus urging Union Railway Minister to propose Mangalore railway division under South Western Railway (SWR), headquartered in Hubli.

The association wants sections of Konkan railway like Karwar up to Madgaon included in Mangalore division. P Edward Jeni, Secretary of association said Mangalore central one of the primary revenue earner for Southern Railway has got its divisional head quarters in the neighbouring Kerala state as it comes under Palakkad division of Southern Railway.

The Zonal Headquarters is located at Chennai in yet another neighbouring state of Karnataka. It's quite natural that however bigger may be the contribution of Mangalore, revenue wise, due to its administrative control located in other states, raw deal has been meted out to Mangalore,'' he said.

He alleged that Palakkad division has been eyeing Mangalore just for its revenue especially from the NMPT ( New Mangalore Port Trust) and also the Mangalore Junction, which is used as mere dump yard for the trains which used to primarily serve the Malabar region of Kerala. The number of from Mangalore towards Kerala side is a clear indication of the fact that Palakkad division is hardly interested in linking Mangalore with other interior parts of Karnataka,'' he further alleged.

As a case in point, he cited the example of Yesvantpur - Mangalore - Kannur express (via Mysore) is being operated to help Malabar region to have more train links with Bangalore. After lot of struggle a portion of that train was made to run in the opposite direction from Mangalore to Karwar, the district HQ of Uttara Kannada district which has been languishing for direct train connectivity with the state HQ. Even now one can see a weekly train from Mangalore to Yesvantpur being announced as to be operated via Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh (Kuppam) to Yesvantpur.

Thus, this train would be getting a unique identity in Indian railways of originating from the same state (Karnataka) and ending up in the same state (Karnataka) but being operated through three other different states,'' he rued indicating how Palakkad division proposes trains from Mangalore with the sole motive of catering to the Malabar region of Kerala as there are limited facilities like pit line, maintenance facilities in major railway stations in Malabar like Kozhikkode, Kannur etc. Jeni pointed out that due to this route from Mangalore- Hassan is hardly utilized, adding the reason cited for operating few passenger trains via Subrahmanya Road, Hassan section is that line is used mainly for freight traffic. This is not at all an acceptable reason as Mangalore is not at all connected with places in Karnataka like Hubli, the HQ of SWR, Bijapur, Gulbarga, Bidar, Raichur etc.

KANYAKUMARI: Rail users in the district have urged the railway authorities to operate daily trains from Kanyakumari to Hyderabad through Tirunelveli and Madurai, which, according to them would benefit nearly 15 districts in the state. They further said that the operation of such train would help a large number of people employed in Hyderabad and also increase the inflow of tourists.

The Kanyakumari District Railway Users’ Association (KKDRUA) has proposed the extension of 12603/12604 Chennai – Hyderabad – Chennai Express to Kanyakumari which will meet their demand.

According to S R Sriram, president of the association, Kanyakumari district is provided with connectivity to all major cities like Chennai, Mumbai, Bangalore through daily train services and destinations like New Delhi, Howrah, Jammu Tawi through weekly train services. However, the important connectivity to Hyderabad is lacking for the region though thousands of people from the region are employed in various fields especially in the IT sector. “We urge the railways to extend the Chennai – Hyderabad -Chennai Express daily to Kanyakumari so that it will serve large number of people. It should be noted that the trains originating from Chennai towards Hyderabad hardly travel 70 km in the state and if extended, it will serve people of 15 districts of the state,” he said.

P Edward Jeni, secretary of the association pointed out that there are many tourist attractions for those travelling from Andhra Pradesh especially the temples in Trichy, Madurai and Kanyakumari. “Even the government of Andhra Pradesh has approached the railways to operate trains to Kanyakumari for the benefit of its people travelling to Kanyakumari,” he mentioned.

S Ravi, a consultant of Intellectual Property Rights in Hyderabad and hailing from the region also seconds the opinion. “There is a craze among the people here about travelling to Kanyakumari and visiting many temples. Besides, the sizeable workforce in IT services in Hyderabad is from Kanyakumari district with educational background. A train service to Kanyakumari from Hyderabad will receive abundant patronage,” he stated.

At present, people who travel to Hyderabad from Kanyakumari district had to go to Chennai through night trains and spend the day in Chennai before boarding the evening trains to Hyderabad. “The direct train will be of great help for thousands of our people from the district who travel to Hyderabad this way,” Jeni said. Recently, the railways started operating a weekly train from Madurai to Kacheguda which has enabled Deccan connectivity for the first time. “In addition to the daily train to Hyderabad, it can also be one more additional train to reach Chennai from the southern districts,” a rail user from Madurai added.

The Palakkad division of Southern Railways has submitted a Rs 16-crore proposal to the Railway Board for the development of facilities at Mangalore Central railway station.

Participating in a review meeting convened by the Mangalore MP Nalin Kumar Kateel here on Monday, the Additional Divisional Railway Manager of Palakkad, Mohan A. Menon, said the proposal for development of a second entry to Mangalore Central railway station was submitted to Railway Board, through Railway Headquarters, for sanction in 2013-14. But it was not sanctioned. However, fresh proposal with modified cost has been processed again. It is being submitted to Railway Board for consideration in 2014-15, he said.

Of the Rs 16-crore works proposed, some of the major works include the construction of platform numbers 4 and 5 at Mangalore Central station, and the construction of a new foot-over-bridge and the extension of the second foot-over-bridge at the station.

It may be mentioned here that the Palakkad division had mooted the idea of developing Mangalore Central railway station at a cost of Rs 17 crore in 2012. This included the construction of fourth and fifth railway platform at Mangalore Central, and the opening of the second entry for the railway station.

The Mangalore MP had sought the opening of the second entry for the railway station to ease congestion during peak hours, and to construct two more platforms for the smooth movement of trains.

To a query by the Mangalore MP on declaring Mangalore Central railway station as world class railway station, Menon said that the Kerala Industrial and Technical Consultancy Organisation (Kitco) will do the perspective plans for the development of world class stations at Mangalore Central, Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi and Kozhikode.

“The Kitco will do consultancy and identify the private partners. This is what we have been given to understand,” he said.

HUBLI: South Western Railway has provided temporary stoppages at various stations for different trains in Bangalore division which have been extended up to December 31.

Train number 12027 Chennai-Bangalore City Shatabdi Express and 12028 Bangalore City-Chennai Shatabdi Express will continue providing temporary stoppage at Bangalore Cantonment. 16232 Mysore-Mayiladuturai Daily Express, 16231Mayiladuturai-Mysore Daily Express, 6517/16523 Yeshwantpur-Kannur/Karwar Express and 16518/16524 Kannur/Karwar-Yeshwantpur Express provide stoppage at Kengeri.

16527 Yeshwantpur-Kannur Express and 16528 Kannur-Yeshwantpur Express provide stoppage at Banaswadi while 16732(16236) Mysore-Tuticorin Express, 16731(16235) Tuticorin-Mysore Express, 12677 Bangalore-Ernakulam Express, 12678 Ernakulam-Bangalore Express,16527 Yeshvantpur-Kannur Express and 16528 Kannur-Ernakulam Express provide stoppage at Karmelaram. 56213 Chamarajanagar-Tirupati Passenger and 56214 Tirupati-Chamarajanagar Passenger give stoppage at Tyakal.

पलपल इंडिया ब्यूरो, मुंबई. पनवेल-44 लोकल में तकनीकी खराबी आ जाने के कारण सोमवार को एक बार फिर हार्बर लाइन की लोकल सेवाएं बाधित हो गईं. प्राप्त जानकारी के अनुसार दिन में 10.50 बजे के करीब रे रोड और काटन ग्रीन के बीच यूनिट डिफेक्ट हो जाने के कारण गाड़ी खड़ी हो गई, जिससे संबंधित खंड में लोकल सेवाएं ठप हो गईं.

जनसंपर्क अधिकारी ए.के. सिंह के अनुसार आंधे घंटे के अंदर रेक को हटाकर रूट क्लीयर कर लिया गया. उसके बाद यातायात व्यवस्था पूर्ववत हो गई. इस समस्या के कारण 3 लोकल  गाडिय़ां रद्द करनी पड़ीं. इस दौरान यात्रियों की सुविधा के लिए वडाला से एक बांद्रा के लिए तथा एक पनवेल स्पेशल लोकल चलाई गई.
