NEW DELHI: The Indian Railways' automobile freight trains operator scheme has evoked a lukewarm response with just one automaker and logistics provider evincing interest five months after the launch.

ALLAHABAD: The illustrious trajectory on which the Indian Railways has been chugging for the past 160 years across the length and breadth of the country would be vividly captured in a photo exhibition to be organised at Allahabad in the last week of August. The exhibition would display rare photographs of Indian Railways and North Central Railway.

History is witness to the fact that Indian railways has united the nation and cannot be separated from its social fabric. Indian Railways has grown with India and has not only bequeathed the country its vast architectural heritage in the form of station buildings and other structures but has also pivoted the nation's economy.

While the Railways is moving steadily towards the future, it is imperative to remember the very foundations on which it is built. It is time to reclaim the past which may be getting lost in the annals of time. This is the reason for organizing the railway exhibition, said CPRO of NCR Sandeep Mathur. He further said that the exhibition would also showcase historical buildings of Allahabad, Kanpur, Agra Fort, Agra Cantt, Gwalior and Jhansi stations.

The photo exhibition would cull out interesting moments of organisation's life concentrating primarily on the first 100 years of its existence which was a period of great turbulence for the Railways as well as the world. It seeks to bring the railways back into the forefront of public consciousness.

The photo exhibition does not trace the history of Indian Railways sequentially from 1853 to the present. It is a thematic portrayal of the many facets of the organization. Through many rare photographs sourced from railway archives, Press Information Bureau, Railway Museum, the importance of the Railways in the lives of the people, its role as an integrating force, as a catalyst of history and as a mute spectator to the unfolding of historical events would be showcased.

The photographs, encompassing all fundamental aspects of the railways are evocative of an era long gone by but that has shaped the present. The 'personalities' section will be of special attention as it reveals the views of some eminent leaders on the Railways. Similarly, the section on the 'station architecture' will speak of the time in history of their construction. The interiors are reflections of the society, the social stratification, while their exteriors present a larger picture of the developmental stage of the town and the city.

A section has been dedicated to the workmen, who are solely responsible for the running of the railways. The photographs reflect the hard labour put in to transport millions of people across thousands of kilometres marking practices most of which are still fundamental to railway's working today.

EXTENSION OF NEW DELHI- NEW FARAKKA BI-WEEKLY EXPRESS TRAIN UPTO MALDA TOWN

For the convenience of rail passengers, Railway has decided to extend the run of 14004/14003 New Delhi- New Farakka- New Delhi Bi-Weekly express train upto Malda Town with immediate effect when departing from New Delhi and from 03.08.2013 when departing from Malda Town as per the following programme :

The 14004 New Delhi- Malda Town Bi-Weeklyexpress train leaving New Delhi o­n every Sunday and Thursday at 06.05 p.m. will reach New Farakka at 10.47 p.m. & depart from there at 10.52 p.m. to reach Malda Townat 11.50 p.m. the next day.  In the return direction, the 14003 Malda Town - New Delhi Bi-Weekly express train will depart from Malda Townon every Tuesday and Saturday at 09.05 a.m. to arrive at New Farakka at 09.40 a.m. & depart from there at 09.45 a.m. to arrive at New Delhi at 02.40 p.m. the next day.

Composition, route etc. of 14004/14003 New Delhi- Malda Town- New Delhi Bi-Weekly express trainwill remain as unchanged.

बुधवार सुबह गैंगमैन की सावधानी से जालंधर कैंट रेलवे ट्रैक पर बड़ा हादसा टल गया। समय रहते गैंगमैन ने उच्च अधिकारियों को सूचना दी कि जालंधर कैंट से चहेड़ू के बीच रेल ट्रैक का बड़ा हिस्सा क्रैक हो गया है। इस पर तुरंत अति व्यस्त रेल ट्रैक को बंद कर दिया गया। आनन-फानन में अधिकारियों ने अमृतसर, जम्मू व लुधियाना स्टेशनों पर गाड़ियों के आवागमन को रोककर ट्रैक ठीक करवाया। गाड़ियों का परिचालन रोकने से रेल विभाग व यात्रियों में हड़कंप मच गया। सनद रहे कि इसी ट्रैक से ही भारत का संपर्क कश्मीर के नए रेल ट्रैक से जुड़ता है। जबकि डीआरएम खुद मौका मुआयना करने जालंधर कैंट रेलवे स्टेशन पर दोपहर को पहुंच रहे थे। उनके आने से पहले ट्रैक क्रैक होने का पता चलने से अफसरों में अफरा-तफरी मच गई। ट्रैक ठीक होने में करीब 40 मिनट का समय लगा। यात्रियों को परेशानी का सामना करना पड़ा। पता चला है कि इसमें इंजीनियरिंग विभाग की लापरवाही देखने को मिली। इस पर डीआरएम ने अफसरों को फटकार लगाई। ट्रैक बंद होने से अमृतसर से सहरसा जाने वाली गरीब रथ एक्सप्रेस, शताब्दी एक्सप्रेस अमृतसर, चंडीगढ़ सुपरफास्ट एक्सप्रेस को रोकना पड़ा। शताब्दी एक्सप्रेस को 30 मिनट देरी से रवाना किया गया।
डीआरएम ने किया जालंधर छावनी का दौरा
बुधवार सुबह ट्रैक बाधित होने के बाद डीआरएम एनसी गोयल ने जालंधर छावनी स्टेशन का दौरा किया। स्टेशन पर साफ-सफाई की जांच करने के बाद रेल पथ निरीक्षक को भी हिदायतें दी कि ट्रेनों को सुचारू रूप से चलाने व रेल ट्रैक को दुरुस्त करने की रेलवे जालंधर के अधिकारियों की भी क्लास लगाई।

आसनसोल स्टेशन पर नई दिल्ली से हावड़ा तक चलने वाली पूर्वा एक्सप्रेस ट्रेन का तीसरा आधुनिक रैक बुधवार को पहुंचा। बताया जाता है कि उक्त रैक की स्लीपर बोगियों में 80 बर्थ है। रैक में एसी, स्लीपर क्लास सहित सामान्य डिब्बे को भी पहले की तुलना में काफी आरामदायक बनाया गया है। नए रैक में अग्निशमन व्यवस्था को और बेहतर बनाया गया है।

Silchar, July 31:The Northeast Frontier Railway has set a new deadline of March 31, 2015 for the 201km Silchar-Lumding broad gauge railway conversion project.
The date was set after Prime Minister Manmohan Singh asked the railways ministry on July 18 to expedite the project.
The new NFR general manager (construction), Rajesh Kumar Singh, told workers at the construction site in Jatinga, 10km from Haflong, last afternoon that there should not be any further delay in completion of the project. He directed them to ensure that the first trial run on the new track is done by April 2015.
A senior NFR (construction) official today said if the trial run is successful, trains could run on the tracks by June or July 2015.
The project, whose foundation stone was laid on January 24, 1996 by the then Prime Minister, H.D. Deve Gowda, has seen its costballoon to Rs 4,255 crore from Rs 658 crore.
Railway sources said there would be 56 bridges, 24 tunnels and 24 stations along the broad gauge line, which will replace the metre gauge track constructed by the British in 1904.
The NFR general manager announced another deadline of October 1, 2014, for beginning the mega block process. A mega block is a construction device used to set up sleepers in the tracks.
Another NFR official said over phone from Jatinga today that the“mega block” exercise will hopefully be completed by March 31, 2015. According to him, the most difficult work is the construction of two tunnels — one in Mahur and another near Jatinga village. The second is nestled on a ridge of Barail hill range.
The general manager said the task of constructing the tunnels in the hill route was a formidable task and state-of-the-art boomer machines had been imported from South Korea for drilling through the hillside.
He said the previous contractors, Mumbai-based Patel Constructions, had quit after their workers faced a host of geological problems like emission of methane gas while building the tunnels. This led to delay in the project as another engineering firm had to be selected for the challenging job.

अब वर्ल्ड क्लास स्टेशन की दौड़ में उपराजधानी के एक नहीं बल्कि दो स्टेशन शामिल हो गए हैं। बुधवार को नागपुर व अजनी स्टेशन का वर्ल्ड क्लास के लिए मूल्यांकन करने आए रेलवे बोर्ड के कार्यकारी संचालक अशोक गुप्ता ने यह बात साफ कर दी है।
पत्रकारों से चर्चा के दौरान श्री गुप्ता ने बताया कि सांसद विलास मुत्तेमवार द्वारा अजनी स्टेशन को वर्ल्ड क्लास स्टेशन बनाने के संबंध में लगातार मांग की गई है। ऐसे में यहां आकर दोनों स्टेशनों का मूल्यांकन करना जरूरी हो गया था। लेकिन निरीक्षण के बाद दोनों स्टेशन की एक अलग विशेषता होने से वर्ल्ड क्लास के लिए किसे प्राथमिकता मिलेगी, यह अभी तय नहीं किया जा सकता है। दोनों स्टेशनों के गहन अध्ययन के बाद वर्ल्ड क्लास स्टेशन के लिए काबिल स्टेशन बताया जा सकेगा।
उन्होंने बताया कि रेलवे मंत्रालय द्वारा देश के कुछ स्टेशनों पर वर्ल्ड क्लास सुविधा देने की घोषणा हुई थी। उसमें नागपुर स्टेशन का भी सामावेश है। लेकिन वर्ल्ड क्लास की तर्ज पर काम पब्लिक प्रायवेट पार्टनर्शिप (पीपीपी) के माध्यम से किया जाएगा। भविष्य में उपराजधानी में जिस स्टेशन को वर्ल्ड क्लास का दर्जा मिले, वहां यात्रियों को परिसर में ही हॉटेल्स, शॉपिंग मॉल, फूड कोर्ट, मैकेनाइज्ड पार्सल हैंडलिंग सुविधा, विकलांगों व बुर्जुग के लिए विशेष सीढिय़ां, चौड़ा फुट ओवरब्रिज, स्वचलित सीढिय़ों का प्रमाण बढ़ाना, स्वतंत्र गटर लाइन, एक्सिकेटिव लाउंज आदि हाईटेक सुविधा मिलेगी।
साथ ही स्टेशन पर सुरक्षा बनी रहे इस उद्देश्य से स्वतंत्र कंट्रोल रूम भी बनेगा। बताया गया कि भारत के मध्य में होने से नागपुर को देश में महत्वपूर्ण स्थान दिया गया है, जिसके चलते यहां रेलवे स्टेशन 24 घंटे व्यस्त रहता है। इसे देख स्टेशन का महत्व बढ़ाने के उद्देश्य से भारत सरकार ने रेलवे अर्थसंकल्प में नागपुर रेलवे स्टेशन के साथ देश के 40 रेलवे स्टेशनों को वर्ल्ड क्लास स्टेशन की घोषणा की है।
इसमें पहले पांच स्टेशनों में चंडीगढ़, आनंद विहार, बिजवासन, हबीबगंज व पुणे का शिवाजीनगर रेलवे स्टेशन है। जिनकी प्रक्रिया शुरू हो गई है। विभिन्न देशों के रेलवे से इस संदर्भ में शर्तें व नियम के लिए मंत्रालय स्तर पर बातचीत शुरू है, जिसमें बेल्जियम देश मुख्य है।

CHENNAI: Passengers arriving at the Chennai Central railway station are having a tough time finding auto rickshaws as access to the vehicles into the railway station has been closed with barricades by Chennai Metro Rail.The pre-paid stand has been shifted out after metro work reached the approach road. "It's a tough time for passengers and drivers," said G Arumugam, president of the Chennai Central Railway Station Auto Drivers and Commuters Welfare. "Neither police nor the railways is coming forward to set up an alternative stand."On Wednesday last, passengers had to wait for an hour to get an autorickshaw. "After the long travel all we wanted was to get back home soon. But we were standing on the main road, haggling with auto drivers who pass by. They demanded more than the train fare." said K Padmaja, a passenger who had arrived at the railway station.The pre-paid auto system was the only solace for passengers as auto drivers outside had been fleecing passengers. In the absence of a working meter in autos, commuters are at their wit's end. The only other alternative is the pre-paid taxi service run by a private company. "I can't afford a taxi every time," said K Radhakrishnan, a sales executive who travels between Chennai, Madurai and Coimbatore every month. "It was sad to see women and children wait for long hours and auto drivers harassing them by demanding exorbitant rates."

The drivers association leader said the situation may turn worse if authorities did not make other arrangement.

वीवीआईपी ट्रेन शताब्दी की सुरक्षा को लेकर दैनिक भास्कर की ओर से विशेष रिपोर्ट प्रकाशित किए जाने के बाद रेल प्रशासन हरकत में आ गया है। इसके तहत स्टेशन पर शताब्दी के आने के बाद महज आधे घंटे के दौरान ही उसकी साफ-सफाई कर दरवाजों को लॉक कर दिया जाता है, ताकि आरपीएफ कर्मचारी या आम लोग ट्रेन में जाकर न बैठ सकें।

अमृतसर भास्कर के 29 जुलाई के अंक में 'स्टेशन पर खड़ी शताब्दी में आराम फरमाते हैं आरपीएफ के जवान, रोकने वाला कोई नहीं शीर्षक से रिपोर्ट प्रकाशित की थी। रिपोर्ट के छपने के बाद कैरिज एंड वैगन ब्रांच के अधिकारियों ने साफ-सफाई करने वाले कर्मचारियों को खास हिदायतें दी हैं कि वे सफाई के तुरंत बाद दरवाजे लॉक कर दें।

शताब्दी ट्रेन के साथ आने वाले आरपीएफ कर्मचारियों को शाम को फिर से वापस जाना होता है। इसी कारण वह ट्रेन में जाकर सो जाते थे, लेकिन अब इनके लिए आरपीएफ थाने में जगह मुहैया करवा दी गई है।
