Rayalaseema and Andhra were on the boil with protests and shutdowns continuing for the second day Thursday against the central government's decision to divide Andhra Pradesh to carve out a separate Telangana state.

Shops, business establishments and educational institutions remained closed while buses were off the roads for the second consecutive day in all major towns of Seemandhra, as the two regions are called.

Demanding that the central government reverse its decision and keep the state united, thousands of protestors took to the streets. Sporadic incidents of violence were reported from Kadapa, Anantapur and Kurnool districts, where protestors clashed with the police.

The protestors vandalized statues of late prime ministers Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi at some places in both the regions. They also burnt tyres on the roads, and effigies of the Congress leaders besides staging road and rail blockades.

They vented their ire at the political leaders, especially of the ruling Congress by laying siege to their houses, demanding their resignations.

Bowing to the pressure, at least three state legislators submitted their resignations while many others decided to quit Thursday evening. Some ministers from Seemandhra have also decided to submit their resignations to Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy.

Raising slogans of 'Jai Samaikya Andhra' or united Andhra, the protestors, who included students, political activists, employees, teachers and lawyers, took out rallies.

Buses of state-owned Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) remained confined to depots in Kadapa, Anantapur, Chittoor and Kurnool districts of Rayalaseema and several parts of coastal Andhra.

Protests were continuing in Anantapur, Kadapa, Kurnool, Tirupati, Chittoor, Nellore, Vijayawada, Guntur, Eluru, Kakinada, Rajahmundry, Visakhapatnam, Vijaynagaram and other towns.

In Vijayawada, employees of Vijayawada Thermal Power Station (VTPS) also joined the protest. The employees' leaders have warned that if the political leaders failed to quit their posts, they would go on strike. The plant meets 40 percent of the state's electricity requirement.

Samaikya Andhra Joint Action Committee (JAC) has called for the shutdown and protests across Seemandhra. JAC leaders said there would be no compromise on united Andhra.

"We are protesting for the safety and the interests of 90 lakh people who live in Hyderabad and other parts of Telangana," said a JAC leader. Leaders and activists of Congress, Telugu Desam Party and YSR Congress Party also joined the protests in various towns.

In Kadapa during a protest by youth leaders of YSR Congress, two youth attempted self immolation but were prevented by police.

Protestors squatted on railway tracks and stopped trains at Pakala in Chittoor district. The rail blockades at Dharmavaram in Anantapur district also affected the movement of trains. Protestors set afire tyres at Tadipatri in the same district.

Tension prevailed for the second day at Anantapur town as thousands of people came on to the streets in an expression of their protest against the state's division.

Kurnool town was also tense after protestors pelted stones at the police, who retaliated with baton charge. In Dhone, protestors set afire a statue of Rajiv Gandhi. Some people pelted stones at the residence of state minister E. Pratap Reddy's house, damaging the window panes.

Police arrested a person at Athili in West Godavari district for damaging the statue of Indira Gandhi.

At Tekali in Srikakulam district, protestors laid siege to the house of central minister Krupa Rani, demanding her resignation.

In Vijayanagaram, police foiled an attempt by the protestors to lay siege to the house of state Congress chief Botsa Satyanarayana, who is also a state minister.

मंगलवार को शाम चार बजे विभिन्न संगठनों के दर्जनों लोग एकत्र होकर जुलूस की शक्ल समाज सेवी केशव पासी के नेतृत्व में रेलवे स्टेशन पर पहुंचे। उन्होंने प्रदर्शन कर लालकुंआ से हावड़ा चलने वाली ट्रेन को रामनगर तक चलाने, लालकुंआ से गूलरभोज के मध्य टांडा रेंज क्रासिंग बुड़ाखत्ता गांव मेें हाल्ट स्थापित करने, काशीपुर से लालकुंआ के मध्य एक जोड़ी शटल सेवा चलाने सहित तीन सूत्रीय मांगों को लेकर प्रदर्शन कर स्टेशन मास्टर संजय कुमार को मंडल प्रबंधक के नाम ज्ञापन सौंपा। ज्ञापन की प्रति रेलवे महाप्रबंधक, रेल मंत्री, सांसद सहित कई मंत्रियों और रेलवे के उच्चाधिकारियों को भेजी गई है। मौके पर सुशील सिंघला, जगदीश पांडे, अशोक गोयल, सुभाष, पंकज शर्मा, धर्मानंद पांडे, विजय कुमार, शिव कुमार, विनोद टंडन, रणवीर सिंह संधू आदि थे।

ट्रेन में यात्रा करने वालों के लिए एक बुरी खबर है. दुरंतो एक्सप्रेस में यात्रा करने वाले मुसाफिरों को अब मेडिकल किट लेकर चलना होगा, क्योंकि उत्तर रेलवे ने दुरंतो एक्सप्रेस में दी जा रही स्वास्थ्य सुविधाएं खत्म कर दी हैं. डॉक्‍टरों की टीम को ट्रेन से हटा दिया गया है. ऐसे में यात्रियों को स्वास्थ्य की देखभाल खुद करनी होगी.उत्तर रेलवे के सीपीआरओ नीरज शर्मा ने बताया कि उत्तर रेलवे की पांच दुरंतो एक्सप्रेस ट्रेनों में मेडिकल टीम की तैनाती 2009 में पायलट प्रोजेक्ट के रूप में हुई थी. यात्रियों को इमरजेंसी मेडिकल सुविधा के लिए एक-एक डाक्टर और उनके साथ एक-मेडिकल पैरा स्टाफ की नियुक्ति हुई थी. तब से हर साल रेलवे बोर्ड से इस योजना को साल दर साल एक-एक साल के लिए आगे बढ़ाया जा रहा था. इस साल प्रोजेक्ट के एक्सटेंशन की अनुमति न मिल पाने से 26 मई से योजना को बंद कर दिया गया.

गौरतलब है कि यात्रियों की सुविधा के मद्देनजर यह योजना शुरू की गई थी. कुछ समय तक ट्रेनों में रेलवे के डॉक्टर चलते थे. इसके बाद इसे निजी हाथों में सौंप दिया गया. उसके बाद शिकायतें ज्यादा आ रही थीं. रेलवे के अधिकारियों के मुताबिक दुरंतो में अभी वैकल्पिक मेडिकल सुविधा उपलब्ध नहीं कराई गई है. हालांकि रेलवे दुरंतो के हर कोच में फर्स्‍ट एड बॉक्स लगाने की योजना बना रहा है.

A suburban corridor and automatic signalling have been mooted by the Railways to introduce more trains and Mainline Electric Multiple Units (MEMU) to end hardship faced by commuters, especially short-distance commuters.Participating at a meet-the-press of the Press Club here on Wednesday, Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Rajesh Agrawal said the Railways had submitted a proposal to the government on automatic signalling, which could be justified only for such corridors.Thiruvananthapuram is an ideal location for setting up a suburban corridor and the first one could be Thiruvananthapuram–Kayamkulam. Taking into account the special situation in the State and the overdependence on trains, the DRM said special passenger trains and air-conditioned MEMU services would have to be operated for short-distance commuters.In reply to a question on the fate of the coaching depot at Nemom, the DRM said the proposal was still under consideration. “The division will move ahead with the proposal,” he added.On the crackdown on season ticket travellers in reserved coaches of long-distance mail and express trains, Mr. Agrawal said complaints from reserved travellers had compelled Railways to take strict action. He said travellers should reserve tickets or travel in de-reserved coaches.

To a query on the shortage of travelling ticket examiners and stationmasters, Mr. Agrawal said accountability-levels had increased and hence the stationmasters were required to do additional jobs and take up additional responsibilities. “There will be opposition and some levels of discomfort, but everything has been done objectively. But if need be, additional staff will be provided,” he added.

Detailing on the upgrade of facilities at the Kochuveli and Kazhakuttam railway stations, the DRM said Kochuveli had been upgraded from level D to B category.

ट्रेनों में यात्रा के दौरान कन्फर्म टिकट पाना थोड़ा और मुश्किल हो जाएगा। दलालों पर रोक लगाने की कोशिश में आम आदमी को परेशानी उठानी पड़ेगी।

एक अगस्त से बोर्डिंग रिजर्वेशन टिकट नहीं मिलेगा। यात्रियों को यात्रा शुरू करने वाले स्टेशन से ही रिजर्वेशन का टिकट मान्य होगा।

ट्रेनों में हर स्टेशन के लिए आरक्षण कोटा तय होता है। इसका फायदा यात्री भी उठाते हैं। उन्हें जिस स्टेशन से यात्रा करनी होती है उसके पीछे के स्टेशन पर उपलब्ध कन्फर्म टिकट ले लेते हैं।

जिस स्टेशन से चढ़ना होता है वहां से बोर्डिंग दिखाते हैं। इससे उन्हें कन्फर्म टिकट भी हासिल हो जाता था, लेकिन आम यात्री से ज्यादा लाभ उठाते हैं दलाल। अपने फायदे के लिए पूरा रिकार्ड रखकर कन्फर्म टिकट की मोटी कीमत वसूलते हैं।

इस पर प्रवृत्ति पर रोक लगाने के लिए उद्देश्य से बोर्डिंग टिकट पर रोक लगा दी गई है। यह नियम एक अगस्त से लागू हो जाएगा। हालांकि इससे यात्रियों को नुकसान होगा। रेलवे वेटिंग टिकट पर किसी भी क्लास में सफर पर रोक पहले ही लगा चुका है।

ऐसे में यात्रियों को दिक्कतें उठानी होंगी। भीड़भाड़ वाले दिनों में बोर्डिंग टिकट के सहारे लोगों की यात्रा आरामदायक हो जाती थी। अब उन्हें इसका फायदा नहीं मिलेगा। सीनियर डीसीएम मनोज कुमार शर्मा ने बताया कि स्टेशन कोटा के अनुसार ही टिकट दी जाएगी।

इलाहाबाद (ब्यूरो)। इलाहाबाद जंक्शन से गुजरने वाली आधा दर्जन ट्रेनों के यात्री बुधवार को हलाकान हुए। ब्रह्मपुत्र मेल और मालगाड़ी के इंजन फेल होने के कारण घंटों यात्रियों को प्लेटफार्म पर ही गुजारना पड़ा। बाद में तीन ट्रेनों के प्लेटफार्म बदले जाने से यात्रियों को सामान समेत इधर-उधर भागना पड़ा। चर्चा रही कि शाम को एक नंबर प्लेटफार्म पर बड़े रेल अफसर का सैलून खड़ा होने से दिल्ली जाने वाली दो ट्रेनों के प्लेटफार्म बदलने पड़े। बताते हैं कि सुबह करीब नौ बजे इलाहाबाद जंक्शन से नैनी के बीच एक मालगाड़ी का इंजन फेल हो गया। इसके कारण जंक्शन से नैनी की ओर जाने वाली ट्रेनें फंस गईं। दिल्ली से रीवा जाने वाली रीवांचल, हावड़ा से आई क्षिप्रा एक्सप्रेस और मुंबई जनता एक्सप्रेस दो-तीन घंटे तक विभिन्न प्लेटफार्मों पर खड़ी कर दी गईं। प्लेटफार्म खाली न होने के कारण मुंबई से गोरखपुर की ओर जाने वाली गोदान एक्सप्रेस को आठ नंबर के बजाए 10 नंबर प्लेटफार्म पर भेज दिया गया। ट्रेन आने के पांच मिनट पहले घोषणा की गई कि गोदान एक्सप्रेस 10 नंबर प्लेटफार्म पर आएगी। इसके कारण यात्रियों में भगदड़ जैसी स्थिति हो गई। दिल्ली से डिब्रूगढ़ जाने वाली गाड़ी 14056 ब्रह्मपुत्र मेल सुबह 11 बजे आई। निर्धारित ठहराव के बाद आगे बढ़ी तो यार्ड में ही गाड़ी का इंजन खराब हो गया। इससे ट्रेन के तीन डिब्बे प्लेटफार्म पर रह गए और बाकी यार्ड में पहुंच गए। मशक्कत के बाद गाड़ी को वापस प्लेटफार्म पर लाया गया। इंजन की मरम्मत कर ट्रेन को दो घंटे बाद रवाना किया जा सका। उधर, देर शाम को एक नंबर प्लेटफार्म के दिल्ली क्षोर पर बड़े साहब के लिए सैलून खड़ा कर दिया गया। इसके कारण दिल्ली जाने वाली ब्रह्मपुत्र मेल और महाबोधि एक्सप्रेस को एक नंबर प्लेटफार्म से हटाकर तीन नंबर प्लेटफार्म पर भेज दिया गया। इससे यात्रियों को सामान लेकर दौड़ लगानी पड़ी।

इलाहाबाद : दिल्ली से डिब्रूगढ़ जा रही ब्रह्मपुत्र मेल का इंजन इलाहाबाद जंक्शन से आगे निकलने के बाद ही फेल कर गया। ट्रेन को वापस प्लेटफार्म पर लाने के बाद इंजन बदलकर रवाना किया गया। इसके चलते ट्रेन सवा दो घंटे जंक्शन पर ही खड़ी रही।

ब्रह्मपुत्र मेल दो घंटे देरी से इलाहाबाद जंक्शन के प्लेटफार्म नंबर छह पर 10.25 बजे पहुंची। पंद्रह मिनट बाद ट्रेन रवाना हुई। वह अभी प्लेटफार्म से थोड़ा ही आगे पहुंची थी कि इंजन फेल हो गया। अचानक आधे प्लेटफार्म से बाहर ट्रेन के रुक जाने से यात्रियों में ऊहापोह की स्थिति बन गई। इस पर शंटिंग इंजन से रैक को खींचकर वापस प्लेटफार्म पर लाया गया। इसके बाद इंजन फेल होने का एनाउंसमेंट किया गया। इस पर यात्रियों ने राहत की सांस ली। दूसरा इंजन लगाकर ट्रेन को आगे के लिए रवाना किया गया। इस कवायद में ट्रेन लगभग सवा दो घंटे तक जंक्शन पर खड़ी रही।

MUMBAI: LokmanyaTilak Terminus, considered to be the city’s worst face presented to a visitor, is on track for a facelift. Central Railway has decided to build a travelator to link LTT and Kurla suburban railway station, to ease commuters’ woes.

CR plans to initiate the bidding process for the project after the Santa Cruz-Chembur Link Road, scheduled to be completed by the end of this year, is opened. LTT is considered to be the city’s most inaccessible station because of its poor road and suburban rail connectivity and a large number of auto and taxi drivers outside it who are infamous for fleecing and even assaulting commuters.

CR’s divisional railway manager Mukesh Nigam said, “We plan to build a 700m-long moving walkway to connect LTT to Kurla station. Passengers will then be able to cover this distance with luggage in tow in 5 to 7 minutes. But we will able to firm up plans only after the SCLR project is complete.” Work on the travelator can only begin after railway land is cleared of construction material and debris from the much-delayed SCLR project, and a proper vehicular traffic pattern is established.

Though built as a modern terminus, travelling to and from LTT is a commuter’s nightmare. Commuters, especially women, have had nightmarish experiences at LTT. In November last year, a starlet was taken for a “long ride” by auto drivers from LTT and assaulted before she managed to escape. “A cartel of drivers is in cahoots with local police and RTO. It is difficult to break the cartel unless the RTO launches a drive to weed out unscrupulous elements,” said activist Anil Galgali. He said several autos fleece passengers with pre-decided fares and don’t ply by meter. Principal secretary (transport) Shailesh Sharma said, “We plan to streamline the auto service outside LTT by introducing a prepaid stand.” But a prepaid taxi service started at LTT a few months back hasn’t deterred rogue cabbies, sources said. A L Quadros, whose union manages the prepaid taxi service at LTT, said, “There is chaos . We have complained several times to the transport department and railways, but the situation has not changed. The RTO and traffic cops too have done precious little to keep the notorious drivers at bay.” An activist said, “Passengers arriving by early-morning or late-night trains have no option but to depend on autos and taxis. They are often gullible victims for rogue drivers who even enter the platform premises.”

A senior CR official said, “Though final estimates are yet be prepared, the project is likely to cost Rs 9 crore.” CR also plans to increase platforms at LTT to 12 from the existing five.

Railway Protection Force of Northern Railway caught Manoj (Monu) R/O Gobindpuri, New Delhi for indulging into the touting activities for cornering reserved accommodation in the name of Cancer patients from Railway Reservation Centre, Okhala.  After intensive enquiries , it was revealed that two persons named Abhishek & Govind, residents of Bhagalpur, Bihar were involved in the touting activities by producing fake documents in name of cancer patients.  During investigation by RPF/Hazrat Nizamuddin, Abhishek was arrested from Okhala Reservation Centre o­n 23.7.13.  Later,on the basis of his statement, 275 forged certificates and 8 rubber stamps in the name of different doctors of A.I.I.M.S. were seized from him.  His other fellow tout Gobind was later arrested with the help of local police/Bhagalpur.

All the  accused have been sent in legal custody by Hon’ble court/Tis Hazari.
