For the convenience of rail passengers and to increase the

passenger carrying capacity of trains, Railway has decided to augment the train no. 12313/12314 New Delhi- Sealdah- New Delhi Rajdhani Express train by One Additional A.C. 3 Tier coach on permanent basis from 16.08.2013 when departing from New Delhi & from 15.08.2013 when departing from Sealdah. The other features like route, timings, stoppages etc. will remain as unchanged.

REVISION IN COMPOSITION OF  UDHNA- VARANASI & VALSAD- HARIDWAR EXPRESS TRAINS

passenger carrying capacity of trains, Railway has decided to revise the composition of the train nos. 19057/19058 Udhna- Varanasi –Udhna & 12911/12912 Valsad- Haridwar- Valsad Express trains as Eight Sleeper Classcoaches instead of  Seven Sleeper Class coaches on permanent basis with immediate effect in both the directions. The other features like route, timings, stoppages etc. will remain as unchanged.

The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) has slammed Railways for not effectively implementing Railway Board’s guidelines for mechanised cleaning of major stations and not taking effective pest control measures in coaches.

Besides, the audit body has observed that Railways has failed to provide good quality of linen to passengers which has resulted in increased passenger dissatisfaction.

“There was lack of synchronisation between guidelines of Railway Ministry on maintenance of cleanliness and availability of infrastructure in the field for their implementation,” the CAG report, tabled in Parliament on Tuesday, said.

CAG team inspected 123 major stations over 17 zones and found mechanised cleaning was adopted only at 65 stations.

Despite assurance rendered to the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), detailed action plan for monitoring cleanliness and sanitation at stations and on trains was not formulated at the zonal level, it noted.

The report observed that mechanised cleaning could not be effectively implemented at major stations due to inadequate provision of washable aprons or damaged and uneven surfaces. “The availability of infrastructure in the field for improving the standard of cleanliness was not commensurate with the policies and guidelines laid down in this regard,” it stated.

The CAG team in a joint inspection of 88 trains over 17 zones with railway officials found cockroaches in AC and non AC coaches of selected trains in six zones.

In its survey of 212 stations for food adulteration, CAG found testing of samples as per the Prevention of Food Adulteration (PFA) Act was not done in 41 stations. Even in major stations like Howrah and Sealdah, shortage in sampling of food under quality control check was noticed.

CAG also found absence of adequate number of toilets and filthy condition of existing toilets through the issue was highlighted in the previous audit report.

The Union Finance Ministry has recommended release of assistance worth Rs.630 crore for first phase of the ambitious Jaipur Metro project. The proposal was made at a meeting of the Public Investment Board (PIB) organised at North Block in New Delhi on Tuesday.

The proposal will shortly be referred to the Union Cabinet for its approval. Union Finance Secretary R. S. Gujral presided over the meeting, while Chief Secretary C. K. Mathew and Additional Chief Secretary (Urban Development) G. S. Sandhu represented Rajasthan.

Mr. Mathew said the Central assistance would help speed up work on the project and facilitate its early completion. The PIB members praised completion of initial segment of the first phase, covering the route from Mansarovar locality to Chandpole in the Walled City, in record time.

Experimental run

Jaipur Metro Chairman-cum-Managing Director Nihal Chand Goyal and senior officers also attended the meeting. The PIB was informed that the metro rail would be run on an experimental basis on the first phase route next month. The cost of first phase is Rs.3,149 crore, covering the distance of 12 km.

The Central assistance of Rs.630 crore, making up 20 per cent of the total cost of first phase, will comprise Rs.472.50 crore as equity and Rs.157.50 crore as loan. The Jaipur Metro Rail Corporation will also get assistance from the Asian Development Bank for the first phase.

The project’s second phase will involve construction of the north-south corridor in the capital city, covering the localities between Sitapura industrial area and Ambabari. Mr. Goyal said the estimated cost of second phase, also covering a distance of 12 km, would be Rs.6,538 crore.

उत्तर रेलवे के एक वरिष्ठ अधिकारी ने बताया कि हालांकि वरिष्ठ नागरिकों, विकलांग और मरीजों की मांग पर टिकट की बिक्री की जाएगी. उन्होंने यह भी कहा कि साथ ही किसी अकेली महिला या बच्चे के साथ यात्रा कर रही महिला को भी यह सुविधा उपलब्ध होगी.

नई दिल्ली : स्वतंत्रता दिवस समारोह को ध्यान में रखते हुए राजधानी के सभी रेलवे स्टेशनों पर सुरक्षा व्यवस्था बढ़ा दी गई है। एहतियात के तौर पर राजधानी के स्टेशन परिसरों में अवैध रूप से सामान बेचने वालों के साथ ही भिखारियों को भी वहां से भगा दिया गया है।
यात्री, रेलवे कर्मचारी व अन्य अधिकृत लोग ही रेलवे स्टेशन परिसर में प्रवेश करें, इसके लिए जरूरी कदम उठाए जा रहे हैं। इसलिए नई दिल्ली, पुरानी दिल्ली व निजामुद्दीन रेलवे स्टेशन पर 15 अगस्त तक प्लेटफॉर्म टिकट की बिक्री भी रोक दी गई है।
वहीं रेलवे स्टेशन परिसर से अवैध वेंडरों व भिखारियों को भी सोमवार से भगाया जा रहा है। इसके लिए रेलवे पुलिस की विशेष टीम बनाई गई है। टीम यह सुनिश्चित करने में लगी है कि कोई भी अवैध व्यक्ति इन स्टेशनों पर न पहुंचे।
अतिरिक्त पुलिस उपायुक्त क्राइम व रेलवे संजय भाटिया का कहना है कि स्टेशन परिसर में अवैध रूप से किसी को कारोबार करने या घूमने की अनुमति नहीं होती है। इसलिए रूटीन में इस तरह के लोगों के खिलाफ कार्रवाई की जाती है।

At least 63 youth have been arrested by Railway police for their alleged involvement in damaging trains and railway property in different parts of South Kashmir.

Police sources told a local news agency, CNS that during different stone pelting incidents agitated youth damaged railway property at different places in South Kashmir. “After analyzing video clips all the culprits were identified and arrested,” sources said.

At least 63 youth have been arrested so far who belong to different places including Awantipora, Islamabad, Kakapora and other areas.

“All these youth have been detained by Railway police,” a police official said.

Despite repeated attempts Superintendent of Police, Railways could not be contacted.

Southern Railway will run special trains to clear extra rush of passengers.

With a majority of RTC and private buses staying off the road between Hyderabad and Seemandhra regions due to the Seemandhra employees’ indefinite strike, South Central Railway has decided to attach 84 extra coaches to 16 express trains, including Secunderabad-Tirupati, Kacheguda-Yeshwantpur, Hyderabad-Narsapur and others from August 12 to 20.

SCR authorities claimed that this would help in accommodating 6,048 additional berths to clear the extra rush of passengers and all this in addition to the 26 originating special trains being operated across the State, said the spokesperson.

Frequency increased

This apart, the frequency of train no. 18509 / 18510 Visakhapatnam-Nanded-Visakhapatnam Express will be increased from bi-weekly to tri-weekly.

Accordingly, train no. 18509 Visakhapatnam-Nanded Express, currently departing from Visakhapatnam on Wednesday and Saturday, will also depart on Tuesday. On its way, the train will arrive at Secunderabad at 9 a.m. and depart at 9.20 a.m. on Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday.

With effect from August 14, the train no. 18510 Nanded-Viskhapatnam Express, currently departing from Nanded on Thursday and Sunday, will depart on Wednesday as well. The train will arrive at Secunderabad at 9.10 p.m. and depart at 9.20 p.m. on Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday.

Meanwhile, traffic passed smoothly on the otherwise busy Miyapur-Kukatpally-S.R.Nagar-Lakdikapul stretch on Tuesday night with majority of private buses and RTC buses being cancelled due to the strike. Private bus operators claimed that 75 buses were operated on Tuesday against the daily traffic of 250 buses to Seemandhra region. Passengers, however, had some tense moments as the buses were stopped at Anantapur and Palamaneru areas for over six hours and for about 30 minutes in other Seemandhra regions by agitators.

Raising slogans, agitators stopped the buses from 2 a.m. at different places and as a result, the journey time extended by about five hours on the Hyderabad- Rayalaseema route. Given the uncertainty and apprehensions, most people are cancelling their trips and there is hardly 15 per cent seat occupancy ratio in buses, says H.T. Ramakrishna of Kesineni Travels.

The famed murals of Kerala will soon adorn the Kozhikode railway station, with the pictures bringing out the city’s culture and tradition.

Five mural specialists from Sargaalaya Arts and Crafts Village are decking the upper-class waiting hall near the fourth platform and the VIP lounge near the first platform. Sargaalaya says the murals will be ready for formal unveiling on Friday.

The murals will visualise the theme “Kozhikode — historical capital of Kerala” and will project the culture and tradition of the city.

The initiative comes as part of the Community Assisted Railway Development Scheme of Southern Railway, aimed at communicating the importance of people’s participation in keeping public places clean and beautiful.

“The railway passengers are sure to get a kaleidoscopic view of the city’s culture from the work. We hope to carry this art mission to nearby stations; one such work is already complete at the Kannur station,” T.K. Rajesh, general manager, Sargaalaya, says.

The project was designed after the visit of Divisional Railway Manager Piyush Agarwal to Sargaalaya two months ago, he adds.
