A leading Chinese rolling stock manufacturer said Friday it has produced the world's heaviest freight train with a maximum loading capacity of nearly 155 tonnes per wagon.CNR Qiqihar Railway Rolling Stock Co., Ltd. delivered the train to global mining giant Rio Tinto on Friday.The maximum axle load of each wagon is 44 tonnes and the train has a total carrying capacity of 30,000 to 50,000 tonnes.The train shows that China is a global leader in freight train research, development and manufacturing, according to the company.Based in the city of Qiqihar in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province, Qiqihar Railway Rolling Stock is a leading domestic freight train manufacturer under China CNR Corporation Limited.In 2012, Qiqihar Railway Rolling Stock realized export contracts for trains and parts totaling nearly 400 million U.S. dollars.The company's products have been sold to more than 20 countries or regions. |

New Delhi: Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has decided to run around 300 extra trains each on Tuesday and Wednesday, in anticipation of the rush of commuters on Raksha Bandhan, an official statement said on Sunday. "In view of the high ridership observed on Rakhi day, and the day before it for the past few years, DMRC has decided to run extra trains and deploy additional personnel to cater to the extra rush of commuters expected on these two days," the DMRC statement said. Raksha Bandhan, the Hindu festival that celebrates the relationship between brothers and sisters, will be celebrated Wednesday.An 8-coach metro train would run on the commuter service line connecting Dwarka with Noida and Vaishali from Monday. According to ridership figures, in 2012, over 22 lakh passengers travelled the day before Raksha Bandhan by metro and close to 20 lakh riders took the metro trains on the day of Rakhi. DMRC also said that an eight-coach metro train would start running on the commuter service line connecting Dwarka in west Delhi with Noida and Vaishali in Uttar Pradesh, starting Monday. "This will be the first of a total of 31 eight-coach trains which will be introduced on the blue line in a phased manner," the statement said. Delhi Metro hit a high ridership figure of 25 lakh passengers recently. Its operational network has grown to 190 km. Metro services began in Delhi in 2002 |

ALLAHABAD: The general manager of North Central Railway AlokJohri gave away the President's Police Medal and Indian Police Medal to RPF personnel for exemplary performance. The President's Police Medal was awarded to assistant security commissioner (passenger safety) TK Chattopadhyay. In addition to this, Indian Police Medals were bestowed upon retired inspector MP Sharma, inspector Sanjay Kumar Singh, sub-inspector Anil Kumar Singh, head constable Rakesh Kumar Tiwari, head constable IndrajYadav and constable Abhinandan Singh Sengar for their meritorious performance.Meanwhile, Johri inaugurated the newly-built regional Railway Protection Force Training Centre at Subedarganj on Saturday. While addressing the RPF officers and the personnel, the general manager observed that the new training centre will help provide better training to RPF personnel. Further, it will also enhance the working potential of the RPF personnel, he said. He also appreciated the architecture of the building of the training centre. |

At least 15 passengers of the Ernakulam-bound Marusagar Express from Ajmer (no. 12978) were taken to various hospitals here after a suspected food-poisoning incident late on Saturday.The passengers, including children, were taken to hospitals in ambulances arranged by Railways when the train reached the Kasaragod station by 11 p.m., Railway police sources told The Hindu.Some of the passengers who complained of vomiting at Mangalore Junction station, when the train pulled in by 9.45 p.m., were taken to hospitals there.Others who showed symptoms were detrained in Kasaragod, they said. |

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday exuded confidence that the ambitious Lucknow Metro Rail project, to ease traffic and transportation problem of the State capital, would start in time.While releasing the ‘Development Agenda of UP 2013-14’, Mr. Yadav said, “After the Lucknow project, which is a priority of the State government, projects for other cities would be taken up”.Mr. Yadav was presented the model of the proposed project at his residence on Saturday. He added that the funds for the extension of metro in Ghaziabad have been arranged.Housing and Urban Planning Principal Secretary Sadakant said details of the project were being worked out so that the first phase of the Rs.6,757-crore project could be started by the targeted date of December 2013.All efforts are being made to obtain necessary approvals and financial sanctions from the Centre, he said, adding that operations are expected to commence in December 2016.A modified Detailed Project Report had been approved by the high-powered committee headed by the Chief Secretary, Mr. Sadakant said.The constitution of the Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation (LMRC) is under way with the memorandum and articles of the association having been prepared, he said.To expedite the work, an interim consultant is required to prepare detailed designs for which two specialist agencies -- RITES and DMRC -- have been asked to submit proposals, he said, adding that the interim consultant would be selected by the end of this month. |

औरंगाबाद - गतवर्षी दसरा व दिवाळीच्या सुट्यांमध्ये प्रवाशांच्या झालेल्या गर्दीमुळे यंदा दक्षिण-मध्य रेल्वेने प्रायोगिक तत्त्वावर काही रेल्वेगाड्यांना जादा डबे वाढविण्याचा निर्णय घेतला. यानुसार 1 ऑक्टोबरपासून नांदेड-पुणे एक्स्प्रेसला पाच जादा डबे जोडण्यात येणार आहे. यामुळे परळी व मनमाड मार्गे जाणाऱ्या दोन्ही गाड्यांमध्ये 360 आसनांची संख्या वाढणार आहे. नांदेडहून पुण्याला जाण्यासाठी नागरिकांना रेल्वे अधिक सोईस्कर आहे. गतवर्षी दसरा व दिवाळीच्या सणानिमित्त प्रवाशांची गर्दी पाहता रेल्वे प्रशासन एक महिना आधीच यासंबंधी पाऊले उचलत असून गाडी क्रमांक 127230, 127229 या नांदेड-पुणे एक्स्प्रेस मार्गे मनमाड या गाडीला तसेच गाडी क्रमांक 17614 व 17613 या नांदेड-पुणे मार्गे परळी या दोन गाड्यांना 1 ऑक्टोबरपासून पाच जादा डबे जोडण्याचा निर्णय घेण्यात आला आहे. आता या दोन्ही गाड्यांना प्रत्येकी 17 डबे राहणार आहेत. ऑक्टोबर महिन्यामध्ये या गाड्यांना चांगला प्रतिसाद मिळाल्यास नोव्हेंबरमध्येही पाच डब्यांचा निर्णय कायम ठेवण्यात येणार आहे. नांदेड - पुणे - नांदेड या गाडीस पाच द्वितीय श्रेणी आरक्षित डबे (स्लीपर क्लास) जोडण्यात येणार आहेत. यामुळे गाडीतील आसनक्षमता 360 ने वाढणार आहे. |

Chennai: The Madras high court has ruled in favour of a wife of a dead Southern Railway employee who was denied appointment in his place on compassionate grounds because she was a diabetic.Pointing out that diabetes usually has no impact on an individual’s ability to do a particular job, the court said, “In most cases the employer may not even know that his employee has diabetes.As the impact of diabetes and its management varies among individuals there cannot be a blanket ban on giving public employment to persons with diabetes.”The court upheld the order of the Central Administrative Tribunal which had quashed the decision of the Southern Railway, denying the widow a job after a medical examination showed she was diabetic.Arockiammal had applied for a job on compassionate grounds after her husband , a commercial clerk with the Southern Railways, died in 2010. But was told in vague terms after her medical examination in 2011 that she was unfit on medical grounds.On her representation, another medication examination was conducted in June 2012. And this time she was told she was being denied a job as her blood sugar was high. The woman then approached CAT, which allowed her application. |

Train service on the Chennai Beach-Velachery MRTS line was disrupted on Saturday evening after smoke emanated from the brake biding rack beneath the ladies compartment of a train. The police said around 5.50 p.m., a few woman passengers noticed smoke coming from beneath the compartment of the train that had halted at Thirumalai (Mylapore) station and alerted railway officials. The commuters were evacuated and repairs were carried out. Train services resumed at 6.05 p.m. |
