A special superfast train will be run between Chennai Central and Mangalore Junction to clear the extra rush of passengers during Onam festival season.

A press release by the Palakkad division of Southern Railways said here that Chennai Central – Mangalore Junction Superfast special and Mangalore Junction -Chennai Central Special: train no. 06003 Chennai Central – Mangalore Junction Superfast Special will leave Chennai Central at 9 p.m. on September 14 and 21, and reach Mangalore Junction at 12.45 p.m. the next day.The train no. 06004 Mangalore Junction – Chennai Central Special will leave Mangalore Junction at 2.45 p.m. on September 15 and 22, and reach Chennai Central at 7.45 a.m. the next day.The composition of the trains will be one AC 2-tier, four AC3-tier, 11 Sleeper Class, three general second class and 2 luggage-cum-brake van coaches. The trains will stop at Arakkonam, Katpadi, Gudiyattam, Vaniyambadi, Jolarpettai, Salem, Erode, Tiruppur, Coimbatore, Palakkad, Shoranur, Kuttipuram, Tirur, Kozhikkode, Vadakara, Thalassery, Kannur, Payyanur, Kanhangad and Kasaragod.The train no. 06004 will stop at Perambur also, the release added.

AURANGABAD: Reiterating the longstanding demand for a Solapur-Jalgaon railway route, the Marathwada Railway Vikas Samiti (MRVS) alleged that the railway authorities had conducted the preliminary survey of the stretch ignoring the historically significant destinations of Paithan, Aurangabad and Sillod.According to MRVS, although the ministry of railways had announced the route of Solapur - Tuljapur - Osmanabad - Beed - Gevrai - Paithan - Aurangabad - Ghrushenshwar - Sillod - Ajantha - Jalgaon, the railways did not carry out preliminary engineering and traffic survey for the proposed line passing through Paithan, Aurangabad and Sillod.MRVS president Omprakash Varma said that the survey of the proposed 450-km long railway route was sanctioned in 2008-09 but the authorities took years to complete it. "Initially, the railway authorities said that they were doing the survey of the proposed route. But recently, they said that the survey was complete and changed the route of the proposed line," he said.

The route was expected to cover Paithan, Sillod and Aurangabad, but these destinations have been bypassed in the new survey report, he added. As per the new report, the route will now pass from Ambad and Bhokardan in Jalna district bypassing Aurangabad.

Varma alleged that the railway authorities had kept people of Aurangabad in dark. "Under right to information act, when I obtained the details from the railways, the authorities said the survey was going on. On three to four occasions, they maintained their stand but recently they said the work was complete and declared the new route," he said.

He said that he would attract chief minister Prithviraj Chavan's attention towards the issue and urge him to retain the original plan. "For the past many decades, people are demanding a railway route from Solapur to Jalgaon via Auranagabad," he said.

Commenting on the matter, Aurangabad MP Chandrakant Khaire said he would take up the issue with the railway minister and urge him to maintain the previous plan. "Looking at the historical importance of the place, we strongly believe that rail route must go through Aurangabad. It will attract more tourists and give boost to the local economy," he said. Khaire said he would again raise the issue with railway authorities in New Delhi next month.

Meanwhile, a senior officer of chief engineer rank, on the condition of anonymity, said that the plan was still at a nascent stage. "We have only completed the preliminary survey and it is too early to say that some places were excluded," he said.

The long-cherished dream of people in the district to have railway connectivity is likely to come true in a month’s time if the words of South Western Railway (SWR) general manager A K Mittal are any indication.

Railway work on the Kadur-Chikmagalur route, that have been limping for over a decade due to various reasons, have picked up and 95 per cent of the work is complete. With five per cent of work left, the trains are likely to chug off by October.

The Chikmagalur railway project stormed into the news after late Indira Gandhi contested from this constituency and won, thereby getting a new political rebirth. If the Kadur-Chikmagalur rail starts functioning ahead of the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, it will give a boost to the United Progressive Alliance (UPA). In all probability, the sound of the train siren will be heard shortly.

A team of officials led by Mittal inspected the ongoing works, which are in their final stage, at Sakrayapatna, Kanivehally, Hoskote and Chikmagalur.  In an exclusive talk with Express, Mittal explained reasons for the delay, saying that land and funds were the main constraints. However, he hastened to add that substantial progress had been achieved over the last two years because of the cooperation of the union and state governments.

The final nod for the project has to be secured from the Railway Safety Authority Commissioner. If that is cleared, the train services will be launched within a month’s time, he said.

Replying to the economic viability of the line, Mittal said it would reduce the distance, besides establishing a link to Mangalire via Belur and Sakleshpur, thus earning a lot of freight revenue. Railway Tourism can be boosted since the region has a number of tourist inplaces, including the world-famous Belur and Halebid.

If wind mills are installed, 30 kV of power can be generated, Mittal said and urged the civil contractor to widen the space before the ticket counter.

CEO Radhesh Sharma expressed happiness over the satisfactory completion of works and the greenery  around the Chikmagalur railway station.

Earlier, the team inspected the staff colony, service sector, over-bridge, ticket counter and the railway works.

Railway’s Mysore division manager Vinod Kumar was part of the team.

Railway Minister Mallikarjun Kharge will inaugurate a new tri-weekly train between Bidar and Bangalore on September 1.

This was disclosed by former chief minister and Bidar Lok Sabha member N Dharam Singh at a press meet at the District Congress Committee office here on Sunday.

The train’s inauguration will be held at the Bidar Railway Station at 12 noon. The new train will depart from Bidar at 6 pm and reach Bangalore at 8 am the next morning. On the return, it will depart Bangalore at 7 pm and reach Bidar at 8 am the next morning, he added.

“We could not change the timing of the Nanded-Bangalore Express from 12:30 pm to 5 pm despite a series of efforts. However, after Mallikarjun Kharge became the Railway Minister, the district’s long-pending demand for an alternative train has been fulfilled. This has brought happiness to the people of the district and we will celebrate it in a grand manner,” he said.

He pointed out that the Nanded-Bangalore Express train takes 19 hours to cover the 735 km between Bidar and Bangalore. However, the new train will help passengers save 6 to 7 hours, he said.

Dharam Singh said the Bidar-Humanabad push and pull train will also be inaugurated within a month. The demand of Bidar Institute of Medical Sciences (BIMS) students seeking due recognition for the institute will be resolved within two months. “I have discussed this with Medical Education Minister Sharanprakash Patil and he has promised to solve the

issue within two months,” he said.  Compensation to farmers in the district who sufferred loss due to excess rain will be given soon, he added. Problems of the Bidar Sahakara Sakkare Karkhane will be solved soon and a delegation will meet Chief Minister Siddaramaiah shortly, he said.

Bellampalli area of Singareni Collieries Ltd, (SCCL), which produces around six million tonnes of Coal per annum, does not have convenient rail dispatch siding at nearby railway stations. Hence, the coal produced at Bellampalli area is being transported to the Railway sidings at Ramakrishnapur and Sreerampur, which are 54 and 74 Kms away from the Coal fields respectively.
Transport of Coal from collieries to Ramakrishnapur and Sreerampur by road is causing pollution and involving with frequent accidents. Moreover, lack of convenient railway dispatch point is  also affecting the incremental production of  Collieries in Bellampalli region.
Hence, Singareni Collieries  Company Limited has taken the initiative to construct a rail dispathch point at Asifabad Road Railway Station, situated between Bellampalli and Sirpur Kagaz Nagar Railway Stations, with the help of South Central Railway.  Secunderabad Division of SCR will develop the rail dispach point at a cost of Rs. 28 Cr. As a part  payment, Shri B. Nagya, Executive Director (Coal Movement), SCCL,  has handed over a cheque for Rs. 13.60 Cr. today (26th Aug.2013) to Shri S.K. Agarwal, Chief Operations Manager, SCR. Shri Nagya requested Shri S.K. Agarwal to take up and complete the work by the end of this financial year to enable SCCL  to commence the Coal dispatch from Asifabad Railway Station.
Once, a full-fledged railway siding is developed at Asifabad Road Rdailway Station, it will help boost the  production and transportation and of  Coal from coal mines situated in Bellampalli area.

इलाहाबाद (ब्यूरो)। उफनाई यमुना के कारण दिल्ली-हावड़ा रेल रूट किसी भी दिन बंद हो सकता है। यमुना के जलस्तर में लगातार हो रही बढ़ोतरी के कारण बाढ़ का पानी कभी भी पुराने पुल के ऊपर पहुंच सकता है। पुल पर ट्रेनों का संचालन बंद होने से इलाहाबाद-मुंबई रूट भी पूरी तरह प्रभावित हो जाएगा। इसके पहले 1978 में आई बाढ़ के कारण इस पर ट्रेनों का संचालन कुछ दिनों के लिए बंद किया गया था। फिलहाल रेलवे की इंजीनियरिंग विभाग की टीम लगातार मॉनीटरिंग कर रही है। एनसीआर के सीपीआरओ संदीप माथुर के मुताबिक जलस्तर बढ़ने पर आवश्यक कदम उठाए जाएंगे।

The Southern Railway has announced special trains on three routes during the Onam and Velankanni festival seasons.

The trains are on the routes of Chennai Central-Mangalore Junction, Nagercoil-Velankanni and Chennai Central- Nagercoil. Advance reservation for the trains will begin on Sunday.

Train no 06006 Nagercoil - Chennai Central Special will leave Nagercoil at 13.20 hrs  on September 8 and arrive Chennai Central at 05.00 hrs the next day.

The composition of the trains will be 1 AC 2-tier, 4 AC 3-tier, 11 Sleeper Class, 3 General Second Class and 2 luggage-cum-brake van coaches.

In the wake of the recent incident of 28 devotees being run over by a train in Khagaria district, the East Central Railway (ECR) has decided to launch an awareness drive to dissuade people from walking on the tracks.   The drive will be carried out in all the five ECR divisions, Atul Pathak, IG-cum Chief Safety Commissioner of Railway Protection Force (RPF) told reporters.    ECR comprises Danapur, Samastipur (under which Dhamara ghat station falls), Mughalsarai, Dhanbad and Sonepur divisions.    ECR Chief Public Relations Officer Amitabh Prabhakar said the drive would be speeded up to dissuade people from hopping from one platform to another by using the tracks or walking on the tracks.    Pathak said besides prosecution, counselling of the people violating the rules would be done as part of the drive.    28 'kawarias' (devotees of Lord Shiva) were mowed down by Saharsa-Patna Rajya Rani express on Dhamara Ghat station while they were walking on the tracks to visit Katyani temple on the last Monday of the month of 'Shrawan'.    Despite frequent drives, trespassing, which is an act of offence under section 147 of The Railways Act has been rampant in the zone accounting for almost 45 per cent people undertaking a Railway journey, Pathak said.    The Act has a provision to impose a penalty of upto Rs 500 or seven days imprisonment for trespassing, the RPF IG said.

A total of 1,415 persons were sent to jail on the charge of trespassing in areas falling under the ECR in 2011, Pathak said.    

The figure increased to 1,808 in 2012 and in the first seven months of 2013, 702 persons have so far been sent to jail, he said.    

ECR with its headquarters at Hajipur realised over Rs 1.34 crore as penalty from people walking on the tracks in between 2011 and July 2013, the RPF IG added.    

Pathak said that RPF personnel have been told in all the divisions to be vigilant against trespassers to avoid Dhamara Ghat-type incident.    

On the instructions of Minister of State for Railway Adhir Ranjan Chaudhury, who had visited the mishap site, public address system has been installed at Dhamara Ghat station to warn passengers against trespassing and for conveying other necessary information, Prabhakar said.   

Crossing over from one platform to another through the tracks instead of using the over bridge is a common sight in Patna junction and other Railway stations in Bihar resulting in accidents.

GURGAON: It was free for all in Jamalpur village near Pataudi on Sunday, as thousands of villagers went on a rampage disrupting road and rail traffic, in addition to destroying public property and thrashing policemen on duty. The violence broke out after a resident was allegedly hacked by cattle smugglers. Following the incident, thousands of residents from more than 12 villages in the area blocked the Gurgaon-Pataudi Road and the Delhi-Jaipur rail route, protesting against the murder of the local youth.Vikrant Yadav, 24, a resident of Khwaspur village, and a member of the local 'Gaurakshak Mandli', learnt about the alleged cow smugglers which were allegedly transporting cows for slaughter in a Tata 407. Yadav informed a few others about the vehicle and they started chasing it from Babda village. Yadav was on a two-wheeler and the others were in a tempo.Yadav was driving fast and soon he caught up with the vehicle carrying the cows while the others were far behind. According to local residents, he was driving parallel to the Tata 407 near Janaula vilage. At this, the driver of the Tata 407 allegedly took out a sharp weapon and attacked Yadav on his throat and then his head.

According to Yadav's family even the local police was part of the chase but they left after seeing the body.

As the news of the death spread, residents from nearby villages gathered at Jamalpur and started an agitation. They initially blocked the road, and later went to the railway tracks and disrupted it. They demanded the termination of all police officials on duty, in addition to the status of martyr for Vikrant.

Though Pataudi SDM Manoj Khatri reached the spot, the villagers refused to budge. Seeing no positive response, they went on a rampage. A group went to Tajnagar railway station and blocked the Delhi-Jaipur railway line. As a result, the Bhuj-Bareily Express was delayed.

The disruption of the railway line also affected more than 20 trains meant to run on Delhi-Jaipur line. The protestors started torching vehicles and even trains, when police started a lathi charge. Police were also forced to open fire in an attempt to disperse the villagers. Over half a dozen policemen were injured. The condition of two of them was stated to be critical. The train traffic could be restored only after 5pm.

"The situation is tense but under control. We are trying to restore rail as well as road traffic," said deputy commissioner of police (south) Rahul Sharma.

"The police not only kept their eyes shut on cattle smuggling but also on my brother's death. Had they stopped the vehicle at the naka, my brother would have been alive. They did not even make an effort to chase the vehicle even after seeing my brother's dead body," said the victim's cousin Harish Yadav.
