As part  of its relentless agenda to contain the activity of touts at prominent stations especially in Delhiarea, Northern Railway carried out decoy checks yesterday(05.09.2013) in the Paharganj area adjoining New Delhistation. During the exercise carried out, the vigilance sleuths of Northern Railway swooped down o­n an Unauthorised Ticketing Agency  Sahara Tours at Amrit Kaur Market , Paharganj

            During the decoy checks, the  investigation team of Vigilance Department of Northern  Railway which requested for sleeper class tickets  costing Rs. 510/- were charged Rs. 1000/- for the same thus overcharging tickets by  Rs.490/-. When the team demanded authorization for the window-mode tickets(PRS Tickets), the owner of the agency produced authorization letter from IRCTC for preparing e-tickets o­nly thus clearly proving that he was unauthorisedly carrying o­n the ticketing activity. The owner of this above ticketing agency was arrested and legal action initiated under the Railways Act 1989.

Protest against alleged neglect towards Kazhakuttom by Railways

The action council for development of Kazhakuttom railway station will observe Friday as Black Day in protest against the neglect towards Kazhakuttom by Railways.To register the protest, people from all walks of life, including the railway passengers and students, would wear black badges, the council said. The railway authorities were adopting a negative stand on the genuine demands, including stops for long-distance trains, at the railway station, general convener John Venatius said.The observance of Black Day was part of intensifying the agitation to achieve the immediate demands. Mr. Venatius said one lakh signatures would be collected on Friday in support of the cause. The general convener said the memorandum would be presented soon to the Union Minister for Railways and Chairman of the Railway Board.To wind up the protest on Wednesday, a public meeting would be held on the station premises at 4.30 p.m.

The memorandum submitted by the council to Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and a dharna held in front of the Divisional Railway Office had failed to evoke any response, he said.The council is demanding the elevation of the station as the third terminal of the Central Station; stops for Vanchinad, Malabar, Ernad, Parasuram, Venad, Kannur, and Chennai Super Expresses; increase in the number of ticket counters and reservation facility with IUTS system; and renovation and upgrade of the second and third platforms. Another demand put forward by the council is the renaming of the station as Kazhakuttom Technopark station.

सुभाष नगर फाटक पर गुरुवार शाम 4 बजे जबरदस्त हंगामे के हालात बन गए। करीब सवा सौ आसाराम समर्थक ट्रेन रोकने पटरी पर बैठ गए। इससे पहले वे दो बसों में भरकर प्रभात पेट्रोल पंप पर पहुंचे। वहां से पैदल नारेबाजी करते हुए रेलवे फाटक पर आ गए। उन्होंने अमरकंटक एक्सप्रेस को रोक लिया। यह खबर मिलते ही एसपी अंशुमान सिंह पुलिस बल के साथ मौके पर पहुंचे। उन्होंने प्रदर्शनकारियों को समझाने की काफी कोशिश की, लेकिन बात नहीं बनी। इसके बाद पुलिस ने बल प्रयोग कर सभी को पटरी से खदेड़ दिया, जिससे कुछ लोगों को चोटें आई हैं।

BHOPAL Twenty- three followers of self- styled godman Asaram Bapu, who is in Jodhpur jail in a sexual abuse case, stopped a train at Subhash Railway crossing on Thursday. Also, they disrupted railway traffic between Bhopal and Habibganj railway stations.Consequently, all of them were booked by the RPF. The demonstrators were kept in various police stations and they will be produced in the court tomorrow.Earlier, hundred of followers of Asaram disrupted railway traffic for about 40 minutes by stopping Amarkantak Express at Subhash railway crossing. When the railway guard informed the RPF personnel, they swung into action.The cops from Aishbag Police station also rushed to the spot to assist the RPF jawans. Some of the followers of Asaram, who boarded the train from Bhopal railway station, pulled the chain at the crossing. Then a mob of followers rushed towards the track with flags. According to RPF sources, the followers of Asaram had stopped the Amarkantak Express.Rapid Action Forces and Aish Bag police immediately swung into action and removed from tracks. RPF sources further said 23 followers were booked on the charge of disruption of railway traffic. A case has been registered against them. RPF commandant Vikay Khatarkar said, “ Some followers who boarded the train from the Bhopal railway station pulled the chain at the crossing. Then hundreds of people rushed towards the track but they were driven out.”

भारतीय रेलवे की टीम के सदस्य टेक्नीकल इंजीनियर रविप्रकाश रेलवे, उप मंड निरीक्षक डाक राजीव तिवारी, सहायक अभियंता एसके शर्मा ने गुरुवार को उप डाकघर का निरीक्षण किया और डाकघर में रेलवे का आरक्षण काउंटर खोलने के लिए रणनीति तैयार की। तकनीकी विभाग की टीम ने डाक विभाग के अधिकारियों के साथ डाकघर का निरीक्षण करते हुए कहां कौन सी मशीन लगेगी, गाड़ियों की सूची, किराया सूची, उपभोक्ता कहां खड़ा होगा, कहां काउंटर लगेगा आदि बिंदुओं पर चर्चा की गयी। टीम के सदस्यों ने बताया कि उम्मीद है कि इस माह के अंतिम सप्ताह में उप डाकघर में रेल आरक्षण की सुविधा उपलब्ध हो जायेगी। जिससे क्षेत्र की जनता को मुख्यालय नहीं जाना पड़ेगा और इससे समय व पैसा दोनों की बचत होगी।

Come October, a brand new steam locomotive manufactured at the Golden Rock Railway Workshop at Tiruchirappalli in Tamil Nadu will begin its onward journey to Nilgiris to haul coaches of the Nilgiris Mountain Railway on the Mettupalayam-Ooty stretch.

A team of engineers and technicians under the guidance of B Anand, deputy chief mechanical engineer of the Golden Rock Railway Workshop, are toiling hard to meet the deadline for the induction of the `4 crore engine. Those not familiar with steam locomotives may raise their eyebrows about the significance of the event.

Golden Rock Railway Workshop set up in 1928 for repairing, maintenance and overhaul of railway engines have graduated into the big league now. “We have the capability, expertise and technology to manufacture steam locomotives. Previously we were importing steam locomotives from England and Switzerland. With the advent of diesel and electric engines, the steam locomotives were phased out of service,” P Mahesh, chief general manager, GRRW, told The Pioneer.

Mahesh and Anand had to struggle hard to collect nearly 4,000 engineering drawings prior to the launching of the works. “Manufacturing steam locomotives is an art as well as engineering. Run-of-the-mill engineers and technicians will not be able to assemble these black beauties. You need aesthetic sense, artistry and technical brilliance to manufacture the engine which has more than 3,000 components,” explained Anand. No wonder, Anand describes his team of technician as master craftsmen and artisans.

Since Indian Railways has reservations about using coal-powered steam locomotives, Anand’s team perfected a technology to power the engine with furnace oil. “It is more safe and environment friendly than the coal-powered engines. We made slight modifications in the boiler of the coal-powered locomotives and the result was encouraging. Now we can manufacture the vintage class black beauties in four months. An engine will cost `6 crore,” said Mahesh.

The GRRW successfully converted some of the vintage steam locomotives lying in various sheds of the Railways into furnace oil-powered engines. “The engines we made are plying in Matheran in Maharashtra also. While I took a converted engine to Matheran, a former loco pilot who had drove her two decades ago identified her and hitched a ride with me. It was a great moment for me,” said Anand.

According to Mahesh, enquiries with loco manufacturers in Switzerland and England threw in some interesting information. “Their engines cost `10 crore and will not be able to ply in mountain stretches.

But our engines are capable of plying in the steepest routes because of their unique Rack and Pinion System. Our engines could get a maximum speed of 30 km per hour in the high ranges,' said Mahesh.

What is interesting is that many private individuals, including some Bollywood stars, have shown interest in owning locomotives. "We get enquiries for even diesel locomotives. There are people who are interested in owning locomotives only to put them on display in their courtyards. Though Lamborghinis and Bentleys are easily available in India nowadays, passion for the black beauties of the Indian Railways has not subsided," said Mahesh.

JMRC won't charge extra amount in the tickets as it decides to pay the insurance premium from its coffers.

The Jaipur Metro Railway Corporation (JMRC) has decided to provide an insurance cover to the passengers travelling by Metro train. Good news for people is that they won’t be charged extra for the cover.

Nihal Chand Goyal, chief managing director, JMRC, said, “The corporation has decided to provide insurance cover to Metro travellers and for this, it won’t charge extra in the tickets.” 

The JMRC will pay the insurance premium. For this, it will invite proposals from companies.

The JMRC decided this after a meeting with the DMRC brass in Delhi recently.

Officials said that generally in such policies, a minimal charge is added in the ticket but JMRC won’t add any extra charge in the tickets.

The corporation will also provide insurance to its employees. Under the policy, accidental and normal insurance will be provided to the JMRC employees.

Meanwhile, project director of DMRC Atul Gadgil said, “In two-three days, all work will be completed for the trial run of Metro (first phase) from Mansarovar to Shyam Nagar.”
However, the exact date for the trial has not been fixed yet.

Gadgil also said that the electrification work on only 40-50-metre track is remaining and it would be completed in next two-three days.

Locals will probably get to see the Metro running on the track on September 15. But people have to wait till next year for the Metro ride.

Officials said the trial would be conducted without passengers because for carrying passengers during the trial run, it is necessary to take prior permission from the collector and no such permission has yet been taken. Meanwhile, the coaches of the fourth Metro train reached Mansarovar depot on Thursday morning. The coaches were dispatched from Bangalore on August 14.

n view of recent attacks on students in trains on the Delhi-Saharanpur route, security has been tightened, railway police said on Friday. CCTV cameras have been installed in trains along sensitive places of railway stations on the routes, Additional Director General of Police Railway, Mukul Goel told media. Railway police and railway protection force personnel in plain clothes have been deployed, he said, adding that steps have been taken following incidents of beating of students of a particular community to create tension.

Security tightened on Delhi-Saharanpur railway route after attack on students Videography has also been initiated to identify the culprits, Goel added. It is learnt that Islamic seminary Darul Uloom Deoband is concerned over the attack on its students in trains and raised the incident with the state government and railway authority and sought security of its students.
