Mumbai, Sept 8: A public interest litigation (PIL) has sought a probe by NIA into the 7/11 Mumbai serial train blasts alleging false implication and fabrication of evidence against Muslims by the state ATS in the case. The PIL filed on September 5 in the Bombay High Court has also sought a stay on the trial being conducted by a special MCOCA court against 13 accused, alleged to be members of the banned Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI), for their involvement in the July 11, 2006 serial train blasts. A PIL has sought a probe by NIA into the 7/11 Mumbai serial train blasts. It has sought a direction to NIA to re-investigate the train blasts pending which the 13 arrested accused should be released on bail and trial against them should be stayed. "Different wings of the Maharashtra police have presented different versions at different times about the 7/11 train bombings," the PIL states. Nepal has said Sep 6 that the Chinese authorities in Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR) had agreed to extend the region’s expanding railway network into the neighbouring Himalayan country. Nepal’s myrepublica.com Sep 6 cited the country’s Chief Secretary Leela Mani Poudel as saying an assurance to this effect was given by Mr Luo Sang Jiang Cun, chairman of the TAR Government. The ethnically Tibetan Chinese official has told the visiting Nepalese official that China would expand the rail service to Nepal once the ongoing Lhasa-Shigatse rail service comes into operation. The construction of the Lhasa-Shigatse railway, which has been going on since 2010, is scheduled to be completed by next year. This is the first time China is reported to have given a concrete assurance to extend a railway service into Nepal. Previously, China had only said it would consider Nepal’s request most favourably. “Feasibility study is underway for expanding rail service between Nepal and Tibet. We will immediately commence the process for implementing the plan once railway line reaches Shigatse from Beijing,” the report said Hari Basyal, Nepalese Consul General in Lhasa, quoted Luo as saying in the Sep 5 meeting with Poudel. At the meeting, the Nepali delegation also solicited Chinese support for the construction of a Kathmandu-Lumbini rail service and linking it with Shigatse, the report added. |

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, who has been pleading with the public to vote for him in lieu of his freebies, has made an exception for his pet project Jaipur Metro. When he launched the project in 2010, he hoped it would be a vote-catcher if he could start it well before Assembly elections in December 2013. But on August 25, when Gehlot visited the Metro sites, he saw the graffiti on the wall. With the project much behind schedule, he now says: "Not every work should be linked to elections." |
