BANGALORE: While the court orders have been in air between the high court and the public works department (PWD), the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRC) hints at a breakthrough of the first tunnel boring machine, early this week. The first machine christened 'Helen' is just 15m away from the breakthrough into the Vidhana Soudha station construction site.BMRC managing director, N Sivasailam, tweeted that Helen is just 10 rings away (15m) from the breakthrough. "Will be there next week. Preparations for breakthrough started...The machine parts have to be dismantled and reassembled at the other end in Vidhana Soudha station to proceed to Minsk Square"," he said.Meanwhile there are just four days for PWD to heed the HC's order to temporarily shift the Ambedkar statue but the department wait for the government to order finally. The statue remains as it is, and backward communities and Dalits on the other hand have demanded the state government to appeal before the SC and seek interim stay order on the shifting. But who is going to stop the pace of work of the Bangalore metro. Tunneling work and other works on other sections of the corridors have gathered pace. The tunnel boring machine christened 'Krishna' has already started tunneling in the north-south corridor on December 22 with two rings placed in by the end of its first day at work. This machine is imported from China made by Herrenknecht Company.Another tunnel boring machine which will be deployed to drill the twin tunnel along the north-south corridor has been shipped on December 12 and is expected to reach in three weeks, Sivasailam mentions. This is also being imported from China and is a Kawasaki-Seli make at Qinhuangdou near Beijing. Even the construction of the 66m crucial span across the railway lines in Malleswaram is in full swing. The traffic and power blocks have been made by the South Western Railways and both the authorities—railways and BMRC are taking cautious efforts to prevent any untoward incident during laying the span. The last span in the Peenya line towards Peenya is also launched and now the track is fully completed between Malleswaram on Maha Kavi Kuvempu road and Peenya depot. The BMRC has also re-laid the road, medians and planted the median on MKK road, as was demanded by the residents of Rajajinagar and Malleswaram. |
