The solar power project of Guwahati railway station has set an example in environmental consciousness. Launched in April 2017, this project was located at the heart of city, railway completed this project a few months back by installing LED lights in the entire station. This has helped in reducing power consumption by 100kWh.

This solar power plant is set up on the roof of the station. According to stats, this power plant generated 7,96,669 KWh of power between April 12, 2017 and May 10, 2018. The average output daily is about 2,048 KWh. Railway said, this plant saved Rs 67,71,687 worth of electricity.

However, it must be noted that The system is a not a standalone one but is grid connected to avoid power loss in rainy season, while when this plant works on its maximum capacity, it feeds energy to grid.

The NFR is planning similar plants in Manipur, Mizoram and Nagaland.
