Train services between Tatanagar and Howrah under South Eastern Railway (SER) were disrupted for more than two hours on Tuesday morning after a goods train developed a mechanical snag. Movement of trains on the down line came to a complete halt around 9am after the coupling between two wagons of the goods train, heading for Dankuni in Bengal, broke as it reached Salgajhuri, about 10km from Tatanagar. As a result, several long-distance passenger trains, including Howrah-bound Geetanjali Express and Ahmedabad Express, were stuck at Tatanagar. Ajmer-Santragachi Express was also held up. The carriage staff from Tatanagar rushed to Salgajhuri. However, they failed to fix the snag and the train was detached into two parts. While the first few wagons were taken to Asanboni, the rear ones headed for nearby railway yard after which rail services resumed around 11.20am. |
