Title - Gatimaan Express all set to slow down
Posted by : RailEnquiry Admin on Feb 15, 2018 - 11:06:47 AM

Gatimaan Express, the India's only train to hit 100mph (160kmph) mark is all set to slow down. Wonder why?
The reason behind its slow down is its extended run from Agra to Jhansi via Gwalior. Once the train will depart from Agra and will move towards Jhansi, the maximum speed it can hit is 130kmph. According to Railway officials, tracks between Agra and Jhansi are not capable enough to withstand train speeds of 160kmph.
"The Agra-Gwalior-Jhansi route is fit for only 130 kmph only, so the train has to run at that speed," officials said.
Railway may announce Gatiman Express extended run from any day after finalising fare structure. In fact lower speed limit is not helping railway to decide fare structure.
As per current fare structure, travelling between Delhi and Agra in executive class of Gatiman Express costs Rs. 1505 while travelling from AC chair costs Rs 755.
Although Railway board has option of reducing fares between Agra and Jhansi due to lower speeds but railway might stick with high fare structure for the better amenities it provides. In the name of modern amenities that sets Gatiman Express apart from Shatabdi Express are fire alarms, GPS based passenger information system, free Wi-Fi Internet service on board and automatic sliding doors.
On the question of extension of Gatimaan Express officials say that, after arriving Agra in the morning, this train is stationed for 8 hours. Railway wants to utilize its assets as much as possible.
